In need of recipes now

Hi everyone! Hope you are all well. I hardly come on this thread but am desperate. Last night I made chicken jalfrezi and it turned out awful. I’ve been married 8 years and can barely cook! I make decent daal and obviously rice is easy to make. I think the butcher gave me less meat than I needed so I used a recipe that required more meat. I forgot to adjust ingredients accordingly.well I did adjust the masalas but put in more ghee than needed for my quantity of meat. My husband was upset and made me go get a pizza. :downcast_face_with_sweat::pizza:I was wondering if anyone who is a good cook can give me true and tried Pakistani recipes with exact US measurements? Also, I live in Chicago if anyone wants to become friends and help me. :face_savoring_food:The reason I’m not good with desi dishes is because I rarely cook them. I usually make healthy American style food but my husband loves traditional Desi food at home.my naani cooks well and gave me her salaan recipe but it never tastes like hers when I make it! I swear I stand there whole time paying attention. I make ok daal but want to try more. I never get a chance to practice desi food cooking as my husband will get takeout or eat leftovers from some outing. I want to start cooking yummy desi food so he likes it and we eat out less and save money too! From once bad cook to an excellent one. Thanks.

Re: In need of recipes now

Two very good channels when it comes to Pakistani recipes. Videos might be easier to learn from than written recipes because that way you can see what’s going on.

Re: In need of recipes now

There are sooooooooooooo many recipes online for cooking noobs like myself.

desicookbook.com is an awesome site...their recipes always turn out great but you have to get used to the grams measurements.

I also love watching youtube videos...there are so many and all of them are great.

Re: In need of recipes now

Thanks ess em and Reha! I copy online recipes but they never turn out good. But I have not watched a video and followed it. Since I am a bit of a visual learner mixed with hands on then this approach might work for me. I just didn't know who was the best cook to watch. A friend told me you can download a measurement converter free on your phone. Think I'll do that inshallah.

Bajia's Cooking is defo good for basic desi khana... follow her videos, my SIL credits her for helping her learn how to become an excellent cook. Also, practice practice practice. No other way about it.
