Asalamu-alekum!
Seening you guys debate with personal clames and statements such as “my mom says that if you do certain things it is good,” really makes me laugh and wonder if there are any limits to ignorence. Shia blaming Sunni and Sunni blaming Shia, pretty ugly, if you ask me. You are either a Muslim or your not, there is no such thing as Shia Muslim or Sunni Muslim. Naming your self with such sectarian names is not liked by Allah. See:[3:103 and 30:32 in quran.]
If we really care about being Muslims, we should spend time investigating everything about it in the light of Quran and Sunnah(example of prophet - which is found in Bukhari, Muslim and other sahi-hadiths books.) Most people start of their statements with phrases like, “in my opinion and I think…,” which is wrong, we should not apply our own opinions and thoughts when it comes to practicing Islam. We don’t care what your mom thinks if certain thing is good or not when we are talking about Islam. Only and ONLY opinion that matters is the opinion of QURAN and Sunnah(example of Mohammad). When we present some material regarding some belief of Islam, we should and always list the references. When you say, “in my opinion or I think…” the following statement automatical becomes void! Because, it might differ from quran and sunnah. Some people would tell you that certain things are ok in Islam, but when you study quran and when you study the sunnah, those things are not right and never were a part of Islam.
Its your responsibility as a Muslim, to learn the correct and authentic Islam. The best is to help your self and NEVER rely on such forums(BBS) to get the “correct” info, because most people here just list their personal clames and personal opinions which can be contrary to Quran.** I suggest that you buy a well translated quran and start to read in the month of ramadan, if possible buy a Tafseer of Quran. Also, buy some hadiths book, such as (sahi-bukhari and Muslim, etc.) and read them both(quran and hadiths books) and get the information you need. That is the best investment you will make (under $50-100)when learning something authentic about Islam. **

**Islam is not a personal piece of clay, which you or your mom or your Imaam can mold in any way and its ok. NO, it does not work that way. Islam is complete set of rules and regulations, which Allah asks us in Quran to follow. There are limits which Allah has perscribed in Quran, which should not be approached!
*Allah has given us the Quran and the Sunnah to show us the way that which is good for us and that which leads our hearts and souls to true contentment. The best part of it all is that if we do things which are good for us (i.e. what Allah has commanded us) and we do it for Allah’s sake alone and according to the Sunnah, we get rewarded for it! ***This stuff I think is just amazing masha’Allah. Truly, Allah is the Most Merciful. He has given us so much. We will never be able to count all His blessings.
PS: When someone tells you that certain thing is ok in Islam, ask them for references from quran and Sunnah and than ask other people about that matter. Some people do not ask their Imaams if such and such practice is ok in Islam, because they think it might be like disrespecting them. Ask them with respect and dignity that you would like to see and read more about this could you direct me to verse from quran or hadith which tells more about this matter.
