We usually purchase gifts together and keep the amount spent reasonable. We both tend to be quite practical with our hard earned money, and don't waste it on extravagant gifts for anyone (whether its friends, families etc. doesn't matter).
If my husband was spending money on his family without taking care of the our needs (ie. our bills, savings, retirements, debt re-payment, kids college fund etc.), then yes, I would certainly have a problem would that. Thankfully I'm blessed with a husband who doesn't behave like that.
