He has again been dropped from the national team for the Champions Trophy in December on the ground that the he did not attend the training camp and that he’d been playing league in the Netherlands.
Re: In justice with Sohail Abbas
He scored 4 goals at the last world cup in 2006 in Germany. He was denied a place in the Asian Games and Asia Cup. Had he been allowed, he would have scored more goals thereby increasing his goal tally which already stood at highest in the world as of today.
Re: In justice with Sohail Abbas
What if he is earning some dollars in the league! He would have been exempted from the camp and trials just for the sake of the country.
Re: In justice with Sohail Abbas
He should be rewarded for being the highest goalscorer in the world!
Re: In justice with Sohail Abbas
I think he would have scored at least 15-20 goals in both the Asia Cup and Asian Games. And Pakistan would have not finished that poor ranking at # 6.
Re: In justice with Sohail Abbas
I think Mush gave him (was it 5 million rupees) a while ago. But yes he deserves to be recognised for his services.
First we need to raise their salaries. If cricket players are paid close to 30 lac rupees per annum (well those in top grade A, even players in grade C earn Rs. 10-12 lac/annum), national hockey players' salaries should atleast be a third of that (i.e. Rs 10 lac per annum). Is that asking too much? This will not only raise the confidence and self-esteem of our players but also get more youngsters playing hockey again. This is not about greed for money, it's about having security in life. There was a time when I used to watch hockey as passionately as cricket. Wonder if those days will ever come back. Does n't seem the way we are going at the moment. Now even China and Belgium are a threat lol!
