Re: In Dubai...
RAK airfield? :D I have been there :D
Re: In Dubai...
^ I haven't been to RAK airfield. But been to Fujairah Aviation centre, UAQ aeroclub. And many, many years ago, I even went to some aviation club in abu dhabi. Don't know if it still functions, or is under the same patronage.
My brother went skydiving a couple of years back. Uff, I was so scared, just looking at the pictures...waise mein itni buzdil tou nahin....actually hoon:D
If u really want to see GOOD belly-dancing then head straight to Atlantis, Levantine! Beyond gorgeous belly-d, amazing food and ambience as well.
The bellydancer was good too! So was the food and ambience! I love al qasr as well..
Re: In Dubai...
i went there just yesterday :D
Re: In Dubai…
^Where ? tamasha lounge? ![]()
I agree no culture in Dubai just indians and pakis everywhere…that’s why I don’t ever want to visit it again. Dubai’s for people with loads of money or expatriates.
Culture is when u go to Bastakiya Village, Spice Souk, Blue souk.. u won't find culture in any of the malls.. visit Heritage Village and the Museum :)

Dubai Museum is funny, its smaller then any good Villa in Dubai, it shows how much Cultural care Arab have. One of the reason they will never become anything !
Dubai has already established and placed itself well, most of the people rave about it must be some reason they do..
Re: In Dubai...
Dubai is grossly over-rated. Nothing too exciting about it and it could have anything but culture. Primarily it is a rich man's playground - good for sheikhs and billionaires around the globe. The place is good for a short visit - just fly in, piss some money away, enjoy yourself, check out. Definitely not a place for living long term.

I am in Dubai as a tourist, i have open mind to all the things, first impression is Dubai modeled on western cities like: London, Paris, NY.. and that's correct.
Their is no originality in Dubai, Abu-Dhabi and same goes for Riyadh, Cairo.. etc..
Filled with Malls, Sky Scrapers, and ????
Before coming here i asked a lot people about what to see and everyone answer was:
1) Burj Arab
2) Atlantis
**
3) Sheikh Zaid Road**
4) Desert Safari
5) Jummairah Beach
**
6) City Center, Ibn Bataoota Mall, Mall of Emirates, Wafi City**
7) Bastakaya, Heritage Village, Dubai Museum
All of the bold line are western, the final verdict is: It's is a heaven for people who come from South Asia, but if you are coming from West. Then you will not like it !
But if you are coming for Palestine, Lebanese hotties, then indeed Dubai has the best marks in whole Middle East.
Most of my friends that fly down from the US or Canada.. say they get depressed going back! Everything is bigger, better..and grander. I myself used to be awestruck roaming around malls in Miami, NY and Las Vegas.. but i've never seen anything like things they have here.
Each to their own..

A lot of American malls are very generic. I have been to malls in various cities, SF, Boston, Houston, etc and they have the same stores, same layout, and the same feel. Shopping at a mall in SF isn't much different from shopping at one in Houston (for men who are not buying exclusive designer labels).
And now, a lot of malls have just gone to S**t recently with the kiosks selling cell phone accessories and cheap jewelery taking up every inch of walking space (full of Desis, Chinese and Persians). And to sweeten the deal now they have Asian people offering massages. Bundle all that with the mall being the average person's hang out place, and you have a place which doesn't look desirable at all.
Sure there are exceptions. I went to a mall in Orlando which had no kiosks, and it looked a world apart from other malls. Never been to Las Vegas, so can't say.
Re: In Dubai...
Love the malls in Dubai but seriously thought that the city lacked culture. I agree somewhat with Firenze.
Coming from the west - it was nice to see everything but again I don't want to go to Universal Studios or Six Flags or Atlantis in Dubai.
^There's a lot more..but people coming from the West don't usually take those tours.. The Spice Route, The Mosque Tour, Heritage Village, Dhow Cruises, Al-Boom Tourist Village.. u can take tours of the desert.. learn to train falcon's..ride camels..have dinner in a traditional tent.. have coffee with beduins..
Tourists..stick to places like Buddha Bar, Atlantis, Al-Qasr and the beach..
TDW, every mall here has a theme.. that's what makes them different.. :)

I loved the camels and the sand dunes. I thought that was the best part. I also liked seeing the locals in Al ain and severals mosques.
Coffee with the beduins that sounds like fun. I missed that. Next time perhaps :)
