Imran wants Aaqib as Pakistan coach

**By Shamim-ur-Rahman

** KARACHI, March 24: Former Pakistan captain Imran Khan on Saturday put his weight behind Aaqib Javed to replace the murdered Bob Woolmer and emphasized that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) should not hire any foreign coach.

“I would appoint Aaqib Javed as the next Pakistan coach because he coached Pakistan’s under-19 team which won the junior world cup twice,” said Imran, who led Pakistan to their only World Cup title in 1992 in Australia.

Imran also suggested that the PCB should also appoint a batting coach and constitute a new fulltime selection committee.

He thought that after Inzamam-ul-Haq’s retirement, Younis Khan would be better choice to lead Pakistan in future outings because he had gained sufficient experience as Inzamam’s deputy.

Reaffirming his criticism of Pakistan’s failure to develop reliable opening pair Imran advocated that Yasir Hameed and Salman Butt should be given a chance to open for Pakistan and said their omission form the World Cup squad was a big mistake.

Asked whether he would accept the offer to head the PCB, Imran emphatically rejected the notion because he had other agenda of national importance.

Imran was shocked at Woolmer’s murder said the killing of the national coach after Pakistan’s shocking defeat against Ireland in the World Cup’s preliminary round fixture was a big question mark. Referring to speculations of bookmakers’ involvement Imran said that it would not be prudent to speculate on the causes and wait for the police investigations.

He noted that in the recent years match-fixing phenomenon had declined considerably since the 1990s.

Imran reiterated his opposition to ad hocism and said that President should not have any role in appointing head of the PCB. He demanded that cricket affairs should be managed by an elected board of the PCB under a constitution and the associations must have their role in it.

Re: Imran wants Aaqib as Pakistan coach.

I thnk it would be a Good idea and i think its a good suggeston ... but i think its time for imran himself to put politics aside and step in to the sporting field and become the pakistani coach and recruit a new pakistani team ... and get rid of the current players except a few ...

it would be soo good to see imran as the coach of pakistan and has a team who is fully capable of winning any tournament .. and are consistant the way he was himself in his time ...

well lets hope best for the future of the pakistani team ...

Re: Imran wants Aaqib as Pakistan coach.

i thought he mentioned seperate coaches for bowling and batting and for bowling he named Aqib

Re: Imran wants Aaqib as Pakistan coach.

Hmm Aaqib.. back to sharaabi culture :smack:

Re: Imran wants Aaqib as Pakistan coach.

It will be better than the current match Fixing, blatant cronyism, coaches getting murdered environement and then there is ugly bearded tellitubbies scenario, Aaqib Javaid will bring back style and character that was lacking.:maulana:

Re: Imran wants Aaqib as Pakistan coach.

yeah lets have a bowling coach, a batting coach, a wicket keeping coach, a fielding coach, a captaincy coach and a vice captaincy coach as well.
and it wouldn’t hurt to hire a few assistant coaches for Openers, Middle order batsmen and tail enders too.

Buhat saray retired general khullay phirr rahay hain pakistan main

:chai:

Re: Imran wants Aaqib as Pakistan coach.

ABaY tau team kee kiyaa zaroorat hai… coaches saY hee games khilwaa da naa :hehe:

Re: Imran wants Aaqib as Pakistan coach.

...and a potty trainer too while you are at it.

Re: Imran wants Aaqib as Pakistan coach.

I think we have tried Molvi culture for last 3 years, are you satisfied with that?

Re: Imran wants Aaqib as Pakistan coach.

And was it the Molvi culture that failed us? Or was it other factors?

Re: Imran wants Aaqib as Pakistan coach.

After watching Aaqib's interview on the show Champions, I feel he is fine to have as a bowling coach but not head coach.
He is not disciplined enough and will make the team reckless. They might not have a good reputation as far as being winners right now, but they atleast are clean of major indiscipline acts off the field.
Cheegum is right. It would be a step back to the drinking culture.

Re: Imran wants Aaqib as Pakistan coach.

man we don't want sharabis playing for us nor de want them working for us.

Re: Imran wants Aaqib as Pakistan coach.

Match fixers are ok? Then we have a list of eligible cricketers that includes Inzimam, Mushtaq Ahmed Shoaib Malik etc etc all are available with excellent resume's and bank balances to prove their credentials.

Re: Imran wants Aaqib as Pakistan coach.

Yes agree he would be a best choice as a bowling coach and not as a head coach. I have stated before that he may not have enough experience to become the head coach at the moment. Also, will he get any respect from the superstars like Shoiab Actor & Co?

Re: Imran wants Aaqib as Pakistan coach.

Others can include crappy Rana and Shabbira with beards (unlikely that they are sharabi).........

Re: Imran wants Aaqib as Pakistan coach.

Don't worry about actor. He is going to be a special appearance untill he is forced to retire.

Re: Imran wants Aaqib as Pakistan coach.

Thats true :D

Re: Imran wants Aaqib as Pakistan coach.

imran is right i think

Re: Imran wants Aaqib as Pakistan coach.

I don't think the coach is going to make much of a difference either way. The details coming out indicate the real man in charge is the captain. He can combine with other senior players and make the coach nothing more than an assistant to him. That is what we are finding out with Inzi/Bob, Dravid/Chappell and Ganguly/Wright. Untill and unless the coach is powerful and can fight senior players and the personality cult, nothing is going to change. Maybe the way to go is have all junior players in the ODI team.
