Imran smells conspiracy to detach N Waziristan - Pakistan - DAWN.COM

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan on Tuesday said it appears as if a conspiracy is being hatched to detach North Waziristan from the country and vowed to bring the matter to Army Chief Gen Raheel Sharif’s notice, DawnNews reported.

Briefing the media after attending a meeting of the party’s core committee here, he said that he will meet with the army chief and appeal to him to stop the military offensive in North Waziristan.

The PTI chief said he witnessed similar situation in East Pakistan (now Bangladesh) during the military operation before it was detached from rest of the country in 1971.

The cricketer-turned-politician claimed that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government had failed in negotiating with Taliban.

Reiterating his stance on alleged rigging in the May 11 poll, Khan said the government was scared of verifying thumb impressions in four constituencies where his party pointed out alleged rigging took place.

He also alleged that Punjab government used its ‘machinery’ to rig the recently held by-poll in the province.

The PTI chairman assailed the government for recent hike in electricity prices, saying the hike during the five-year rule of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has been superseded by the prevailing government in just one year.

“It feels as if the PML-N government is not afraid of anyone,” said Khan while mentioning 14 foreign trips of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif since assuming power last year. Despite all these trips, the government has failed to bring any foreign investment in the country, he added.

Speaking on the occasion, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Pervez Khattak said that his province was being treated like an ‘orphan’. He complained about non-issuance of development funds by Islamabad and its noncooperation on the matters relating to power, water and wheat.

Re: Imran smells conspiracy to detach N Waziristan from Pakistan

This is getting ridiculous....he is smelling his own dirty socks most likely.

His lust for power is driving him mad.

Just a drama to keep busy Nirralay

Re: Imran smells conspiracy to detach N Waziristan from Pakistan

I am really amused at the silence of Ghairat Brigade now:

1) Imran Khan directly accused Pakistan army of following American agenda.

2) He accused the army for conspiring against Pakistan by scheming to separate North Waziristan from Pakistan. He compared the NW situation with 1971.

The same ghairat brigade was so enthusiastically declaring GEO ghaddar when they accused ISI chief for attack on Hamid Mir. Now Khan sahib has labelled such serious allegations on the whole institution of army.

Now where are the egos of our army leadership and ghairat brigade. The whole so called patriotic media (what-ever-is-left-after closure-of-GEO) is also quite.

P.S.
Just a reminder to Khan Sahib:
There is no government writ in NW. It is already an Islamic Emirate of Taliban for all practical purposes from where these Taliban militants conspire, plan, train, order, execute killings and attacks in Pakistan.

Just ask Taliban Khan about his group ?

Re: Imran smells conspiracy to detach N Waziristan from Pakistan

Where did Imran said what you have mentioned? Did you heard him saying that in Raiwand while eating Sri-paye? ... or you are accusing him just because you felt like it? ... As what I can see, IK only accused government (of Nawaz Shareef) and not armed forces.

Anyhow you are right in something you wrote in later part of your post, that is ... No doubt Imran is wrong in his statement that N-Waziristan situation is same as 1971 East Pakistan ... as:

In East Pakistan, a military ruler colluding with a politician 'Bhutto' looking to benefit from operation, started military operation against most popular East Pakistan political leader, his party, and whole Bengali community (similar to what Bhutto did in early 1970s Baluchistan operation, Zia did in late 1970s Sindh operation, and Nawaz Shareef/BeNazir did in early 1990s Karachi operation).

As for N-Waziristan operation, it is not against political party or people of N-Waziristan, but operation is against a group of terrorist living there, who are not only terrorizing Pakistani people but people of N-Waziristan and other tribal area too, and are also actively fighting with Pakistan armed forces. So, operation in N-Waziristan would not only eliminate terrorist living there, but could bring peace to Pakistan as well as N-Waziristan and other tribal areas.

Re: Imran smells conspiracy to detach N Waziristan from Pakistan

Don't tell me you were born yesterday and you don't know who is doing operation in North Waziristan..

Mehsud group breaks away from TTP

PESHAWAR: A key faction of the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) announced Wednesday that it was splitting from the militant outfit following bloody clashes with a rival group.

The break-away faction belongs to the Mehsud tribe, widely considered the most important of the various groups that comprise the umbrella TTP which has fought the Pakistani government since 2007.

Azam Tariq, a spokesman for the group, said the breakaway faction would be lead by Khalid Mehsud, famously known by the name of Khan Said alias Sajna.

“We announce our defection from the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan, we have chosen Khalid Mehsud as the new leader for South Waziristan,” announced Tariq.

Khalid Mehsud was a key ally of former Mehsud Taliban chief and former TTP number two Waliur Rehman Mehsud, who was killed in a US drone strike in May last year.

Speaking in an interview at an undisclosed location, Tariq said individual ideologies had created a rift among the Taliban and they were deviating from “the real cause”.

He claimed that the present TTP regime was carrying out bomb attacks on public places with bogus names and money was also being extorted from madrassahs and other institutions which, he said, was unacceptable.

“The TTP leadership has fallen into the hands of a bunch of conspirators, the umbrella organisation is involved in criminal activities like robbery and extortion,” he said.

He said other Taliban factions were also becoming distrustful of the main umbrella organisation.

Azam further said that the group had tried to reform the TTP, claiming that, despite its efforts, conniving elements in the organisation had emerged successful.

The spokesman said that these elements had handed over management of the central organisation into the hands of “shadowy forces”.

Two factions of the TTP, the umbrella grouping for disparate militant organisations, have been locked in bloody clashes for the past several weeks.

Differences emerged in the militant organisation after former chief Hakimullah Mehsud was killed by a US drone in November last year and a crisis developed over the future leadership of the group.

Khalid Mehsud was a contender for the TTP’s top slot after Hakimullah’s death, but the post eventually was handed to Maulana Fazlullah who hails from the scenic Swat valley and is the first non-Mehsud to lead the TTP.

The conflict brought those backing Khalid Mehsud against supporters of Taliban commander Sheheryar Mehsud, who claim to be the followers of the late Hakimullah Mehsud.

Infighting among the factions has also impeded and undermined what little progress had been made in peace negotiations with the government.

Someone (including Mullah Omar) did a great favour to Pakistan when Mullah Radio was given the reins of the TTP. The split started that very day. As things stand, I feel the infight will grow even sharper and we will see more bloodshed in the region. Pakistan needs to play its card safely to make sure that it does not end up becoming a unifying bond for the rebel groups. Islamabad needs to widen the fissure carefully.

Re: Imran smells conspiracy to detach N Waziristan from Pakistan

interesting read on the impunity with which taliban operate in NWA.

My trip to North Waziristan

Mufti Noor Wali’s verdicts would make some happy but others upset. I noticed that those who were on good terms with the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and provided funds to it get favourable decisions from him. Several Mehsud tribesmen were targeted in Karachi; the terror of the TTP is so great that when Mufti Noor Wali makes a phone call to someone from the Mehsud tribe living in Karachi, he does not waste a day in reaching Miranshah. The trip from Karachi to Miranshah and the lodging there cost around Rs 50,000 and since Mufti Noor Wali has banned Mehsud jirgas in Karachi, anyone with a small dispute has to submit his case in his darbar. **Now the Sajna group has complete control over Karachi and the extortion money (bhatta) that it collects from builders, transporters, the oil tankers union, rickshaw union and businessmen, with impunity. The interesting aspect is that the above unions take money themselves to Miranshah to hand over to the cross-eyed ‘chief justice’. The Hakimullah Mehsud group has almost been eliminated from the city of Karachi. The Sajna group has also eliminated the influence of the Awami National Party (ANP) from the port city. So far, not a single important commander from either the Hakimullah Mehsud group or Khan Said Sajna group has been targeted by the police, rangers and the army in Karachi. The high profile commanders of Hakimullah Mehsud were all killed by the Sajna group, not by the armed forces. The important commanders of the Sajna group in Karachi are Khan Zaman, Mufti Javid, Zahidullah Zakriya and Omar. They are openly operating in Karachi and have not been arrested by the security agencies, which makes common people suspect that they have the support of the security establishment. Several people in Miranshah told me that they have lost faith in the government agencies and they have no option but to come to Miranshah and pay money to save their skin and their families.
**
I noticed that Mufti Noor Wali caused terror among the people — those going to meet him were truly terrorised. He has spread the propaganda that he is very strict and does not compromise on principles but I noticed that if one has a strong reference from a big commander in the TTP, one will get an appointment easily and also a favourable decision; otherwise one has to wait for weeks to meet him. The TTP gets sizable funding from Karachi. According to some estimates and my interaction with businessmen in Karachi, the TTP collects Rs 100 million every month from Karachi alone. When we met Mufti Noor Wali in his office in the presence of Khan Said Sajna, the meeting went very smoothly. However, I noticed that neither our bodies were searched nor our phones were taken from us. This shows their confidence about having complete control. I found him to be a rigid man with a coarse voice and no sense of humour at all. He presented himself as an uncompromising man who accepts no references and makes decisions justly. Since he is the chief justice of the Taliban Sharia Court, his decisions are based on sharia. One thing I noticed: he is very hospitable and when it is lunchtime, he feeds everyone present in his office. He fed us too with beef, potato and gravy followed by black tea. The lunch was good, no doubt.

Mufti Noor Wali is well respected by all commanders from the Sajna group as well as by Khan Said Sajna himself. The friend I accompanied had a land dispute with another party in Ittehad town in Karachi but since he had a strong reference from a TTP commander, we were given access to the chief justice on the same day. The chief justice did not arrive at a decision and told the opposing parties that he would seek evidence from his commanders and make a decision in the next hearing. The date for the next hearing would be conveyed to both the parties through ‘proper’ channels. I also visited different towns in North Waziristan like Data Khel, Dande Darpakhel, Mir Ali, Ghulam Khan, Shawal and areas of the Dawar tribe.** I discovered that the Dawar tribesmen are really fed up with the Mehsud Taliban. Hundreds of Dawar families fled their lands and moved to Bannu for fear of military operations especially after the Khajuri suicide attack and corresponding military strikes in Mir Ali.

The Dawar tribesmen also left for other areas when the political administration asked them to expel the TTP and Uzbeks from their areas. Their plea was how could they expel them if the government was in no position to do the same? Dawar tribesmen also told me that when there are drone strikes or military strikes, TTP militants loot their shops with impunity. People in private will tell you how much they appreciate drone strikes but, in front of the media, they feel frightened. The most important thing I saw was that very close to the Miranshah main market is a military fort but in the centre of the bazaar is a government hospital of which full operational control is with the Taliban. We saw Taliban from the Sajna group and the Haqqani group in the hospital. I also saw Haqqani group members openly roaming in their vehicles and not being stopped at army check posts. The Wazir Taliban also enjoy full freedom in Miranshah and other parts of North Waziristan.
**
Some general observations I had: when top Taliban commanders park their vehicles, others strictly watch them for fear that someone may plant explosives close to them. Both groups are afraid of each other and in recent incidents have killed each other’s commanders. I have heard that TTP commanders do not stay in one place. Top commanders like Rais Khan, alias Azam Tariq, Noor Wali and Khan Said Sajna stay in different houses given to them by the local people. They visit each other unannounced. At night, one hears drones above and everyone has this fear that their house might be targeted. Despite this fear, locals tell me that drones are the best weapons ever produced.

Re: Imran smells conspiracy to detach N Waziristan from Pakistan

No one is telling
In which group Talban Khan is now
Waziri Group or one like him Fazalullah group

Re: Imran smells conspiracy to detach N Waziristan from Pakistan

It is sad that we have same approach in almost all aspects of country "wait and watch the opponent commit a mistake and fail" instead of proactively defeat the opponent / push them towards failure.

I wouldn't blame you for that, he is still in the 'negotiations' camp.

Re: Imran smells conspiracy to detach N Waziristan from Pakistan
