Well, it seems this result has made it very difficult for Pakistan to reach the Super Six. says imran khan…
Pakistan only had four points and it was the perfect opportunity for them to join England, India and Zimbabwe on eight, but they wasted it.
Frankly, I didn’t understand the Pakistani team selection for this match.
I was baffled by the decision to put Shahid Afridi in as opener.
The side that will benefit the most from this match will be India
Imran on the Pakistan’s prospects…
Afridi is someone who is a very cavalier - surely it would have made sense to put in a more conservative player.
I think Taufeeq Umar would have done a good job. A left-hander would have been able to counter the outswingers which England’s pace attack bowled.
But the batting collapse we saw against England, is an all too familiar sight with Pakistan - it reminded me of the final in 1999, when we floundered against Australia.
They are just so inconsistent and that really frustrates me, because they’ve got huge potential.
I think the major problem is that they are all stroke-players and not grafters. Worse still, they can’t handle severe pressure.
But credit should also be given to England. The bowling conditions seemed to suit them and basically they were the much better side.
Perhaps though, the side that will benefit the most from this match will be India.
They have eight points from three games and play Namibia next - hopefully Pakistan will have something to play for by the time they face India on 1 March.
