i didn’t say it was idiotic or that it isn’t his right to withdraw. i said it was a lame political stunt and the rationale he gave was low quality. his replies sounded silly. if he had the courage, he could have simply said “barkha, pakistani society is extremely polarized right now and and as an aspiring politician i would be vulnerable to attacks” or perhaps “barkha, i need the electoral support of the religious right wing and this withdrawal enhances my credibility with them”.

He did give her one reply that the society has been polarized by the war going on in the country for 10 years. You are saying that imran kept on repeating the same things, what about barkha? Was she asking different questions, more than half the questions were about what salman rushdie had stated about him. Besides it was not only Imran, I think it was Sara taseer, maleeha Lodhi some Indian Chief minister and even malaysian oppostion leader also pulled out of the conference. Are all these also extremists? This issue is not about right or left (within the muslim world) I dont see any muslim leader would have attended that conference.
