Imran Khan thinks like the Taliban – The Express Tribune

…PTI is probably the most ‘online’ party in Pakistan and anything written about it is certain to get attention. In an age when the impact of a piece is gauged largely by the amount of comments it elicits, bashing Imran Khan is a sure route to success. The columnist gets attention and the editor gets clicks. Re: Imran Khan met Osama Bin Laden

Does this mean that Imran should be above criticism? Of course not. There are glaring issues with his stance on militancy, for one thing. But then, this is also a country in which a sitting minister can call the Taliban his brothers; where Fazlur Rehman can call Malala Yousufzai’s shooting a ‘drama’; where Munawwar Hasan can sidestep condemning suicide bombings time and again; where bakery boys can be beaten and the rules of business overturned to favour a selected few. Take all the columns written on these issues and multiply them by 10 and you will almost approach the number written about a single PTI misstep. So, is the reason that the rest of our politicians get off easy simply that we have given up on them?

Excellent article and sums up EVERYTHING that PTI fans claim everyday. As the author said that Imran has NOTHING to do with most of the problems we are facing today and only issue where he does deserve criticism is “Taliban” issue. It’s shocking how there are so many talkshows dedicated to people leaving PTI (Even Mazari’s daughter leaving PTI was massive issue, so was Rabia Zia’s who is a nobody when it comes to Pakistan and it’s problems). As author rightly pointed out that journos criticise Imran because he is a soft target (He is not going to get you sacked, kidnapped, murdered, blackmailed for your views about him). Journos get lot of fame and attention after attacking him and even enjoy trolling so it kind of makes sense.
In a country where people are being exposed for rigging elections with ISI’s help, dozens being killed in a city everyday, collapsed education/health sectors, major institutions are being bankruped, our media is a lot more worried about why Rabia Zia or Iman Mazari are leaving PTI or forming alliance with Sheikh Rasheed (Especially when other major parties are busy forming alliance with banned groups (PMLN) and PPP kicking jayalas out to accomodate PMLQ candidates who change parties within 24 hours.
