Re: Imran Khan hitting Six to Richard Hadlee

I think all 4 allrounders of that time tried to challenge eachother by going extra mile. I remember many times Imran and Botham, or Imran and Kapil hit eachother for six, and bowled eachother on the next ball. There was a point to be made when facing eachother, above and beyond the match result.

Re: Imran Khan hitting Six to Richard Hadlee

^
and Imran outclassed everyone :snooty:

Re: Imran Khan hitting Six to Richard Hadlee

Imran Khan is the greatest cricketer Pakistan ever have. Also the greatest allrounder of all time in my opinion.I never saw Sir Gary Sobers playing .So from the ones i saw.

Re: Imran Khan hitting Six to Richard Hadlee

Botham was the best of all 4.

Re: Imran Khan hitting Six to Richard Hadlee

in crying out loud :D

Re: Imran Khan hitting Six to Richard Hadlee

Are u an English .Botham was a very poor captain .Imran one of the best fast bowlers of his time (against all top opposition) ,a great solid middle order batsman ,probably the greatest ever captain .

Botham ,a good bowler(inferior to Imran), a great batsman(superior to Imran) .Captaincy(not even a competition).May be a better fielder .But Imran will make into any world XI or Botham may be for some English .

Re: Imran Khan hitting Six to Richard Hadlee

Botham was superior to **Imran **only in fielding. He was not a better batsman than Imran. Imran averaged more than Botham in both tests (37.69 v 33.54) and ODIs (33.41 v 23.21). Botham (14) has more test hundreds than Imran (6) but most of Botham’s hundreds were against Packer-depleted sides (1979-81). Just to prove my point, Botham did not score a test hundred in the last 8 or 9 years of his career!

bhai mazaq ker raha tha mein.

Re: Imran Khan hitting Six to Richard Hadlee

Wah wah wah so you included Kapil Dev among top alrounders list of Imran, Bothan and Hadlee?

First you need to include Kapil in medium pacers then you could include him in alrounders. Otherwise this list may include Muddassar Nazir, Steve Waugh, Paul Collingwood, Ian Bill, Salim Malik, Ijaz Ahmad, and may include Kambli for his speed.

Re: Imran Khan hitting Six to Richard Hadlee

Were Imran, Botham, Kapil and Hadlee not the best allrounders of 80's. Is it not that has been said or written. or I am hullucinating. I thought that was the case. Nobody said that Kapil was very fast.

Re: Imran Khan hitting Six to Richard Hadlee

There was as such no ICC ranking or any other rankings in cricket back in 1980's, however everyone acknowledged the 4 great allrounders in that era, no if's or but's about it. They were Imran Khan, Kapil Dev, Ian Botham abd Richard Hadlee.

Re: Imran Khan hitting Six to Richard Hadlee

Abay Chup...Kapil Dev was much better.

Re: Imran Khan hitting Six to Richard Hadlee

^ Thats a good way to bump up the thread. :)

Re: Imran Khan hitting Six to Richard Hadlee

Does anyone else remember the all rounder competition in South Africa in the late 80s, where Clive Rice won the tournament and Imran came in second ?

Im not sure if all the big four allrounders were in it, but Gooch, Viv RIchards and Botham were in this tournament.

Does anyone else have info on this tournament ?

Re: Imran Khan hitting Six to Richard Hadlee

It was not in south Africa but in Hong Kong. I remember it as PTV showed the recording of the tournament. It was somewhere between 1986 and 1988.

It was a single wicket competition. Khan Sahib was there along with Clive Rice. I remember Kapil Dev as well.

The all rounders were assisted by local fielders. I think the tournament comprised of 2 rounds. The all rounders were competing against each other in different matches. Khan Sahib was really struggling towards the end of the first round. However came back really well in the second round and got the 2nd position. You are right, Clive Rice won the tourament.

Re: Imran Khan hitting Six to Richard Hadlee

I remember most of the dismissals in this short clip. This was Imran’s come-back (6-14) spell against India in 1985 at Sharjah. Pakistan (87 all out) lost the game despite dismissing India’s powerful batting line-up for 125!

Re: Imran Khan hitting Six to Richard Hadlee

wow, thanks for bringing that tour up Asif. That was the last leg of a very long tour.

It started with the new Zealand tour where Wasim Akram made his debut along with Ramiz Raja. Zaheer Abaas got into an argument with Abdul Qadir, and sent him home in the middle of the tour. Pakistan lost 2-0, but we almost won the last test to tie the game with Wasim taking 10 in his second test.

Then the team went to Australia for the mini world cup where Imran Khan made his comeback to the side and we lost the final to India. On the way back we stopped over in sharjah, which was also the first or second time there was international cricket in sharjah, and we lost to India again.

Over all, we played in Australia and Sharjah beating the west Indies, Australia, England, and New Zealand, but lost to India three times out of three prompting a retired player to demand that the team be made to wear a T-Shirt saying "87 all out" when they cam back home. However Pakistan would win 16 of the next 17 matches against India, the one defeat being a technicality with the scores tied.

The final of the mini world cup was the last time Wasim Raja played for Pakistan. Azeem Hafeez would also be dropped from the one day side after the final. Zaheer Abaas would announce his retirement in the middle of the following home series against Sri Lanka. Imran would take back the captaincy on the return tour to srilanka, and hence forth would be captain of the team unless he didn't care to play a series for the next 8 years.

Thank for the link Asif, brought back some old memories, I was ten, and this was my first summer in Pakistan, and the first time i followed a tour.

Re: Imran Khan hitting Six to Richard Hadlee

You're welcome and thanks for the update. For someone who has such a great memory of cricket events how come you have only 19 posts in 8 years! Maybe you spend more time on BBC (allangles website....) or some other site. That was a great spell from Imran Khan indeed but sadly to no avail. He was almost unplayable that day......the delivery that got rid of Gavaskar was special... it had to be as he rarely threw his wicket away.

Re: Imran Khan hitting Six to Richard Hadlee

no yaraa, I just read more than i post

found a short clip of that spell, Imrans best return in ODIs.
