Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh, with an over 10, 000 fellows and members, has conferred Imran Khan with an Honorary Fellowship in recognition of his services to healthcare in Pakistan and overseas, particularly for his enormous contribution to cancer services in Pakistan through his efforts to establish the Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centre.
The Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh was founded in Edinburgh, receiving its Royal Charter in 1681. The college acts in an advisory capacity to the UK government as well as to other organizations on many aspects of health and welfare and medical education. It was instrumental in founding the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh in 1729 and, over the years, has influenced the development of medical schools in North America, Australasia, Asia and Africa. The Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh now has over 10,000 Fellows and Members and maintains strong links with many other countries, where more than half of them live and practice medicine.
