Imran Khan as a politician [split: Do we really deserve this Army..?]

Re: Do we really deserve this Army..? the sooner we disband them, better off we will

That’s pure nonsense my friend. Yes Imran criticised Mush in the past but that is his civil right. But I don’t blame you guys because you are just not used to freedom of speech and expression. You guys still have the same ghulaamana zehniyat and can’t quite shirk it off. I feel sorry for you. Whereas we who now live in the West take these things for granted. If Mush was allowing that before he was not doing anyone any great ehsan. If you had said that to anyone in the West that Mush allowed this and that he would have laughed back at you. We take these things for granted my friend and do not consider it an ehsan from anyone (ofcourse there are limits which should never be crossed). This is our fundamendal civil right.

Unfortunately you live in a country where merit does not count even now. A country where matric-pass and educated jaahil and idiots (like Sheikh Rashid, Wasi Zafar, Pervez Elahi and Ch. Shujaat ) can become minister and chief minister, that country really has no future.

Now since you brought this ethnicity thing into the discussion let me just give you some peace of mind. It’s nothing but bull. Imran has a big ego and yes some of his selections when he was the captain of the team did not make much sense at the time but I don’t think they had anything to do with Karachi/Lahore thing.

When Imran Khan dropped his cousin Majid Khan who was the guy who replaced him? - a Karachiite Mansoor Akhtar. Imran once even compared him to the great Viv Richards! - kahan yeh takkay ka batsman aur kahan Viv Richards.

I know some of you guys get your knickers in a twist about that declaration by Imran Khan when Miandad was on 280* against India in 1983. Imran did the right thing then because we won the test - period. The team’s performance should always come first. Miandad like Tendulkar always played for individual records. He was then some 86 runs away from breaking Sober’s record, so it was n’t like he was within striking distance of the record. Miandad actually got two more chances to get to 300 (260 v England in 1987 and 271 v NZ in 1989) but failed on both occasions (nothing to do with Imran here :)). There was nothing very special about the deliveries that got him then. When a batsman is on a big score and well-set it’s often not the bowling but tiredness or exhaustion that eventually gets him out.

And to give you another example Imran once declared the Pakistan innings with his personal score on 93*. That’s how selfless he was. I have lived in England for some 15 years now and I can safely say that no Pakistani has ever been in the newspapers and glossy magazines as much as Imran Khan and many of my English and Indian friends have the greatest of respect for him as a cricketer and person. I don’t know whether it’s a hang-up or jealousy with some of you guys.

Lastly Miandad was n’t some kind of a saint either. Read the following damning comments by a fellow Karachiite the chief selector Salahuddin ‘Sallu’. Miandad apparently black-mailed the selectors throughout his cricketing career.

Miandad was just never in the news as much as Imran mainly because of his poor personality and poor communication skills (Forget his English, his urdu is crap and has been the subject of many comedies in Pakistan incl. fifty-50 and 4manshow etc.)

(ps. I regard Miandad as Pakistan’s greatest batsman)
