Improper charity?

Just wondering… could there ever be an “improper” way of collecting donations? If, for example, you organise a dance party complete with drugs and whatnot and call it a charity event? Would that be considered a sawaab ka kaam or not? (provided the event does actually collect a lot of money for the needy)

Re: Improper charity?

I'd like to make a donation :@:

Re: Improper charity?

I remember in my secondary school, some pakistani girls did a rehearsed dance (hiphop style), one of the girls or I think 2 normally wear hijab but they took it off when they got on stage and in their hawt gear. This was during ramadhan in the daytime to collect funds for the earthquake that happened in Kashmir (2005?). Now it was quite funny, there was an entrance fee of 20p, and lots of desi people went in for the sake of scandal, ooh these paki girls are doing a sexy dance, she took off her hijab so they paid to watch. Basically there was a lot of judging going on but the scandal aspect worked to a good effect, they raised alot of money during that performance. At least someone was fed/clothed.

I don't like to judge, if people had so much of a problem with it they shouldn't have watched, they knew there was going to be music there. The White people really loved the onion bhajis! I remmeber i was so tempted to eat one as I was fasting. but everyone's fast went kharab that day with the dance :P

Re: Improper charity?

According religious teachings such charity collection would be w/t sawab, as the means used are haram. People try to rebut this by quoting the hadith that 'deeds are by intentions', but if a Muslim is not allowed to do a business which involves pork or alcohol. Then, this shows that one can't earn through the business that involves haram things.
@ amzsonikuri The hijab or purdah is not a joke. Just like keeping a beard in the name of Prophet's Sunnah and then rejecting it by shaving it later is a huge gunah, similarly making hijab a part of your attire and then take it off according to the situation or occasion is also very wrong. One shouldn't start something so respectable that is a tradition of the Mothers of the Faithful, if they aren't sure they'll be able to give it the due respect.

Re: Improper charity?

It remind me of a man I met a long time ago...

I have always been the sort to give to charity as and when the need comes. Now in my culture I have no shame in admitting that my ancestors were looters, centuries ago we were lordless barbarians and did many terrible things. I used to hear Mullahs butter the stories over and tell us that such actions had thier glory to them... but I never felt comfotable with it.

I finally met a guy who put some real sense into my head and heart... he told me that looted wealth could not be given to charity for it was tainted. Now anything you donate must be yours to give in the first place but you must also consider if it is gained by an Islamic manner.

If spoils from battle taken purely for reward and then sent to charity must be so scrutinized I see no reason why modern ways of obtaining funds must also be scutinized too.

There are many ways of rasing funds and stooping to was that are ignoble and fo against the basic tenets of faith can't be right can they?

I am not saying this for certian only giving my opinion but I feel it is not right to go beyond the lines simply for charity there is so much you can do without resorting to haraam acts.

Re: Improper charity?

unpure wealth can't be purified just by giving charity

^Eloquently put my friend. :lajawab:

Re: Improper charity?

No, it wouldn't.

Re: Improper charity?

Whatever sail your boat, because a person who is dying of hunger or lack of medicine will not see & neither care where it's coming from and how it's collected. Period.

Guess what, i have fundamental difference of opinion on "swaab k liya or sawaab ka kam", sometimes one should do something regardless of wanting anything in return. Try giving charity this way, next time.
