Improbable Vacations

What are yours?

I would love to take a few months (yes months!) off from life and live in some random surfing village and learn how to surf. Probably not going to happen since any decent surfing spot is overrun with people, and stupid life gets in the way. Maybe when I retire. I’ll have to bring at least 2 of my 4 wives with me.

Re: Improbable Vacations

I would LOVE to be able to take an extended trip to Costa Brava, Spain and study molecular gastronomy under Ferran Adria!!! El Bulli has closed down, so there goes one unrealized item off of my bucket list, but if even given the chance, I would run off to culinary school in Spain.

Sigh. :phil:

Re: Improbable Vacations

I’ve always wanted to do a 3-6 month voluntourism - sort of immerse myself in another place and “do good” at the same time. But a friend recently sent me an article that suggested that we of the Western world in our arrogance are doing more harm than good with certain voluntourism jaunts - our help isn’t nearly as helpful as you would think :bummer:

But, yes if I could choose an improbable vacation, I wouldn’t go very far. Just rent a beach house along an ocean coast (could be Atlantic or Pacific) and try and write the next great novel. It’s improbable because as a working drone, such extended time off isn’t available to me, but a girl can dream can’t she :hinna:

Re: Improbable Vacations

I read that as voyeurism and I was like whaa?

I’d love to go trek the Amazon. I find it beautiful and mystifying at the same time.

Re: Improbable Vacations

sorry this is offtopic but i read the very same article (was it guardian?) about a year ago and it totally was an eye-opener! it’s why i would only love to volunteer in pakistan. it’s better when you know the culture and can empathise and understand the people well.

Re: Improbable Vacations

That’s sort of like when the hotel receptionist asked me: ***how are you doing today?

*** And I responded: *I’m feeling well-rested **after last night ***(post sleeping-off 48 hours of travel exhaustion)

And she does a double-take and says: Excuse me?

I had a stuffed nose and my ears were popping so I couldn’t hear myself very well - she thought I said: I was arrested last night :vivo:

Re: Improbable Vacations

It probably was the same article - she wrote from the perspective of a white woman whose communication barriers and cultural lack of informedness meant she couldn't always communicate with respect to medical issues of patients to doctors and vice versa.

Re: Improbable Vacations

Speaking of Flu considering where you went did you need vaccinations prior?

Re: Improbable Vacations

I did. My family was on my case so to appease them, I got the shot and darn it it hurted a lot!

Re: Improbable Vacations

You’re really putting miles on that smiley aren’t you? :hehe:

That would be great though. Up the cooking repertoire.

Same! I wish I could live for a few months in each of the countries I’m interested in. The writing career sounds good, perhaps something titled “Tales from the Trolley”. :halo:

Re: Improbable Vacations

Do you know how many chapters of ^ that book I’ve already written? I think you were late coming to my blog - I’ve already made a great start on that particular book

Re: Improbable Vacations

Except they'd judge you for your mahdren clothes and manly voice. Well, at least the clothes can be remedied. Chins up.

Re: Improbable Vacations

Lol it would definitely make for an interesting read. You should post some chapters on your blog. I’m dead serious, it would be interesting to read about (presumably) the worst of the desi rishta process.

I wish I could write fiction. My prose is better suited towards non-fiction but there’s a certain appeal to being a storyteller.

Re: Improbable Vacations

Uhm, i guess youre right. Im sure youd have a better time relating with apes though.

Yes yes, i know. Im not ashamed of the poor comeback either.
