What exactly is that? Is it something strong enough to keep somebody from getting married?

Its a genuine query cuz i was in a relationship with a man about whom i heard this words once.

Its male infertility. The desire to have kids exists in everyone's heart, and if one knows they have no chance of procreating with their partner, they may refuse marriage so as to allow you to find a partner with whom you can have a family.

Even men dont know a lot about this subject unless they are really suffering from it. But yes it may stop some one from getting married.

isnt infertility some thing different ? A man cant know about his infertility until he actually tries it after marriage or goes for some proper tests. Men usually dont go for such tests at all and only time they know about infertility is when they get married and things dont move on. Is it not the case?
So if some one doesnt actually know if he is infertile or not how can he refuse to a marriage on that basis ?

Impotence renders you infertile. How a person finds out about this before marriage is anyones guess. A lot of people in Pakistan go for pre-marital checks to doctors/hakeems, and in the process, blood and semen samples are taken, and they do tell you what your sperm count is, and if it is enough for procreation.
Or it could be something else...physical injury, testicular cancer etc.

Isn't impotency more of a mental thing (that obv affects the physical)....obviously the desire is there but sometimes the body doesn't follow, that's why there's Viagra/Cialis etc.

i wanted to mention this but couldnt choose the right words. Agree with you that impotency is more a mental thing (or could be a manufacturing fault in some cases :P).
And infertinity is a totally different subject.

PS: Looks like Viagra/Cialis dont work so well as Hugh Hefner's 25 years old fiancee has called off the engagement :)

It is more then infertility of a man. And a man can find out about him being impotent way before he gets married . These being family forums I do not want to describe it in plain English.

being impotent and being infertile are two different things.

Being infertile is basically having some sort of problem with your sperm.

Being impotent is unable to have an erection. It is also knows as erectile dysfunction. It can be either Physical OR Psychological.

And there is a very easy to find out even before marriage. The reasons why someone could possibly know before marriage is because of the testosterone surge around 6am for most men and it goes a bit mental in the teenage years. I have seen asian muslim boys come to the GP a bit worried sometimes doesnt mean they are having sex, it just shows an awareness of ones body.

Men have hormonal changes throughout the day. Every man will have an erection sometime in the night, most likey in the early hours, due to a surge in testosterone even before marriage-its not to do with sexual desire its to do with biology and chemistry.

Anyways if you are worried you can have a test at a hospital, you sleep there and they record if you have an erection in the night. But there is also a recognised medical test called the 'stamp test' i dont know why its called the stamp test. But you can get a peice if paper and lightly wrap it round and tape the paper together-not to your skin though! and in the morning if its broken you DO NOT have a physical problem its probably psychological.

Not exactly. ED is primarily psychological. Impotence is derived from the word 'potent'. The potency of a man's sperm is what dictates his fertility. If his sperm arent potent enough, then he is referred to as impotent. In any case, a medical website might shed better light on this issue.

  1. Lack of desire of having sex
  2. Erectile dysfunction
  3. Low Sperm count
  4. Premature ejaculation ..

What is commonly known as impotency is number 2.

Medically and legally, impotency is inability to hold an erection. This can be due to many factors, one of them being psychological, but that is not the bottom line cause. It can be due to an injury, medical reasons or most of the time, unknown.
