important news about the upcoming india series.

looks like the pitches will be completely different from the last time india toured. To this day I can’t understand why pak prepared batting paradise the last time they came. Especially when india’s strength is in their batting. I think pakistan is the only country that makes pitches that plays completely opposite of their strength.

Hard, bouncy pitches against India urged

*From our correspondent

*RAWALPINDI: Pakistan will look to prepare hard and bouncy pitches for the Test series against India next month according to Pakistan skipper Inzamam-ul-Haq.

“The pitches will be different to the ones we played on against England. We will like to have tracks with more bounce and pace in them as we now have a pace attack capable of taking full advantage of such tracks,” he said on Sunday.

Last year when India toured Pakistan the Test pitches were better suited for the visiting seam bowlers who with their reduced pace took more advantage of the little grass on the soft surfaces. English curator Andy Atkinson had supervised the preparation of the pitches.

Agha Zahid, the chief curator of the Pakistan Board who has prepared the pitches for England series, said that for Pakistani bowlers hard and bouncy tracks were more suitable.

“Our bowlers have more pace and leaving grass on the wickets are not useful for team. Our bowlers need hard and bouncy tracks where they can gain that extra pace and make the ball swing in the air,” he explained.

Zahid said that preparation of the pitches for the Tests in Lahore, Faisalabad and Karachi would not be an easy task and would start at least 10 to 12 days before the match itself.

“The weather is now very cold and the temperatures continue to drop. In such conditions it is very difficult to keep the pitches dry of moisture and dew and to get some live grass on the surface. At times when it is freezing we even have to use heaters to keep them dry of dew and we now cover the wickets from late night to ensure the pitch retains its heat,” he explained.

Pakistan beat England in the Tests in Multan and Lahore on the final days with even the second Test in Faisalabad going to the end with the home side needing just four more wickets to secure a win.

The chief curator said for him the most satisfying thing was that the Tests had gone to the wire and two results had been produced. “In my 30 years game I have not witnessed such a Test series where the matches have been close and played to the end with the result not clear. It is good for cricket and for the Pakistan team,” he added.

Re: important news about the upcoming india series.

Interestingly...I would like Pakistan to prepare bouncy and bowler-friendly pitches...to give India's mediocre bowling attack(likely to include Agarkar) some hopes of dismissing Pak twice.

As for India's batting, they just have to score more than Pakistan to be in the game....if it is going to be difficult pitch for them to bat...it is not likely to be a walk in the park for Paki batsmen either.

I think the above was the reason why Pak shirked away from preparing bowler-friendly pitches in the last India-Pak series.

Talking about bouncy pitches, one more benefit from a personal viewpoint : Gangu would have a miserable time in PAK which will mean the end of his career. Bad performance against Pak is not something the Indian public forgives easily...

Is Dada comin to Pak for sure?

India’s concerns over Karachi remain

December 19, 2005

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) officials have met with the interior secretary and other government officials to discuss next month’s home series against India, The News has learnt.

According to available details, PCB chairman Shaharyar Khan and director board operations Abbas Zaidi met with interior secretary Kamal Shah and other interior ministry officials on Saturday in Islamabad to discuss some security issues related to the Indian tour.

“The Pakistan Board has got some feelers from India that they still have some security concerns regarding playing a Test in Karachi and the Indian board will probably send a high-level security inspection team soon to finalise security arrangements for the tour,” a board source said.

He said that even during the meeting with President General Pervez Musharraf, Shaharyar had discussed the Indians’ tour and had been told in clear words that India must play a Test in Karachi after the successful organisation of the one-day game against England. “The fact is that again there are some issues related to Karachi which is one of the reasons why the Indian board is delaying approving the proposed itinerary sent to them by Pakistan.”

Under the proposed itinerary, which has already been amended twice, India are due to arrive in Lahore on January 5 and then play Tests at Lahore, Faisalabad and Karachi with the one-dayers at Peshawar, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Multan and then Karachi. Pakistan are keen to get the itinerary finalised and released by next week due to logistical and other reasons.

Last year when India toured Pakistan for their historic ground breaking series, they refused to play a Test at Karachi and only played a one-dayer in the southern port city which was a major incident free success. England also shunned Karachi as a Test venue on their current tour but relented to a one-dayer. Touring teams have shunned Karachi which has been at the centre of militant and sectarian related violence which, however, has been controlled by the government in the last one year.

The source said Shaharyar and Zaidi had met with Kamal Shah to get a clear directive and guideline on security issues surrounding the Indians’ tour specifically Karachi. The Indians say they have sent the proposed itinerary to their government for final clearance and want to discuss it one final time with their team management before approving it.

What security fears?

The only insecurity i see on part of India is against Afridi and Razzaq. They must have a fear of cross BOUNDRY activities by these 2 players!

cmon, India play in KHI, there is no fear in Karachi for anyone. Crowd of Khi is the best you can find anywhere in the world, even for Indian team (at least better than calcutta crowd)

Re: important news about the upcoming india series.

This strategy will most probably backfire. Pakistan definitly has advantage over Indians when it comes to fast bolwing strength. But I doubt Performance of Pakistani batsmen on those wickets. Team is full of flat track bullies.

This will be interesting scenario though if they implement,

Re: important news about the upcoming india series.

i dont think ganguly will tour pak,bad news for us isnt it :D

Re: important news about the upcoming india series.

and i hope india will play matches in karachi...
and pak will win INSHALLAH.

Re: important news about the upcoming india series.

We have heard this story too many times before, unfortunately nothing ever materializes. It's one thing telling the groundsmen to prepare something and another to actually execute it. It's no secret the many arguments Inzi has had with the groundsmen. The problem is the soil that is available in Pak is not the type from which hard tracks (like those in Australia) can be prepared.

I think what Pakistan is more worried about is to keep the pitches from crumbling so that India's umpteen spinners can start pitching it in the rough. Lets face it, we were hardly tested by spin by England and we are not exactly good players of it either. I wouldn't be surprised to see the same batting tracks, just harder with a more bounce and less spin. Our Danish can spin it on any type of surface and the more bounce the better. Indians without the threat of spin, will be very hard pressed to dismiss Pakistan twice.
