i just want to know
what is the status of sipahi (soldier) in Pak Army
why in record books shaheed soldiers are not recorded by name , rather recorded in numbers
for officers record are made by name but for jowans there are only counted and why officers don’t care how many jowans die in war
why 1 soldier is eqaul to one horse in record books

Taliban have even lower status. No one knows how many thousands of taliban have died since US invaded Afghanistan.
But the very lowest status is reserved for civilians. No one even keeps track of their numbers.

Soldiers are dieing due to taliban attacks, get the relationship or do you need it explained in some other language?
It's no phobia when we see daily news on some taliban attack on innocents or army. Welcome to reality.

Status of Sipahi (Jawan) in Pakistan is quite a lot. In most cases, he can abuse civilians and no one can do anything to him. Very few Pakistani policemen dare to say anything to Army Jawan even if they break laws. :)
Anyhow, coming to their status in Pak Army: Pakistan is unique country where even a Pakistani jawan can get highest military award ‘Nishan-e-Haider’. Very few countries do that.
What I know: 3 out of 10 Nishan-e-Haider awards were given to non-commissioned officers.
Jawan Sawar Muhammad Hussain
Lance Naik Muhammad Mahfuz
And
Havaldar Lalak Jan
Pakistan certainly cares about how many Jawans die in war. Most of the times Pakistan officers lead any operation and could die even before Jawan. Major Aziz Bhatti Shaheed when got his shahadah, he was leading the war and was most vulnerable in front. Same happened when Lal-Masjid operation started. First person to get shahadah in the hand of terrorists Abdul Rashid and his terrorist men was Lt col Haroon Islam.
So you cannot say that Pakistani army jawans are just numbers.

I'm not too aware of this, but yes like pointed above, this may be a part of the British tradition and system which all Armies, Indian, Pak, BD, SL etc must be following among many other traditions most of which are valuable and logical.
As far as what i think on this, Army No. is awarded to all soldiers; officers and men and all their records are based on the no. As such even when it's said that an officer by the rank and name of this and this did this or was martyred or was awarded this or that, his/her Army No. is quoted along. And like Sa1eem said, the tradition to quote soldiers by No.only and officers by name may be a tradition, but in no way doews it mean that a soldier is considered second class or mere 'canon fodder'. Not at all! And some of the points Sa1eem mentions sum it up well how well soldiers are regarded and taken care of. And those that attain gallantry awards are saluted even by Gens.

I agree! civilian rarely have enjoyed the kind of status military classes were accorded in history...Now look at Pakistan's military that went on ramapage in Karachi and slaughtered innocent civilian like chikens...especially this Gen Babar...

actually i was wondering , american armies etc take care of each of their soldier but in Pak army , siphai have no importance no matter how brave he was or not, he will be just counted and recorded in damage taken place to other stuff
why Pak army don't take care of even a single sipahi
on this type of treatment , would anyone like to become sipahi if there are good economic conditions available outside army

Well the status has improved may be as today's newspapers brought the names of the butchered soldiers (butchered by our famous muslim brothers)
Islam does not allow mutilation of bodies even of Kuffars lest of fellow muslims. How can we call Baitullah Mehsud and his fellows as Muslims.

About the question of meheralone, i have wondered it a bit. In record books the names are always kept (like war diaries etc). However once initial message is sent back to headquarters of casualities only the number of jawans and Animals while names of officers are quoted. This is due to shortage of time and also due to reason that officers are posted in units by names while jawans are posted by numbers. how is that i explain
In war there are reinforcement camps behind the combat zones. once casualities occur in forward zones messages for reinforcements are sent behind. Officers in the camp are posted by names to forward areas while camp commander is told to send 10 x soldiers to forward area. so probably that is the reason that initial casuality reports are also structured on the same lines to reduce the paper work. however later on all names and related stuff is mentioned and every death honoured equally.

importance of soldiers in army? none…not just in pakistani army but in any army. look @ US. bush lied through his teeth, blatant lies…and now soldiers are dieing bcos of that. mushy, in his attempt to please USA and others, is not only responsible for the killings of innocent civilians at the hands of army but is also responsible for the deaths of soldiers who had to fight for his gains.
