Importance of music for children

Yes, I'll definitely encourage my kids to get involved in or enjoy good music because it helps a person with memorization and relaxes the mind...However, I will not want my kids to pursue in music careers because I simply don't want them "OBSESSED" with it!

Pursuing a career in music can mean more than just being a professional musician. It can involve teaching, sound engineering, producing, instrument technician and engineering, and many more. A career in music is tough, so it's important that one have something else to fall back on.

Fretty, I agree with you completely. Music is human creativity at it's best. I have studied music all my life, my college minor was music too. Have been playing the Piano for 18 some years. Find it very relaxing.

I agree it's tough but that's not what I'd be worried about. I know a lot of people who love to play a certain music instrument like my two brothers. Younger one plays piano and the older one used to play with drums(was involved in a small Paki band) and stuff but gosh, that was time when I hated staying home. I hate when people become tooo glued to one thing. It becomes annoying you know. They used to do it ALL day and then we would get complaints from neighbors about it. So yes, I want my kids to enjoy music but not to the extent that they spend their whole day with their piano or whatever. Other than that I love music! :)

What I meant was that, if music were someone's career, whether it be any aspect of music (musician, sound engineer, instrument engineer, etc, etc), then there is nothing wrong to be obsessed about it. There wouldn't be anything wrong in liking any type of career so much as to be obsessed with it.
