n i'll prefer to search for a school which helps students shaping themselves as a good muslim rather than proud followers of musicians.i hold the motto of nipping the evil in the bud :)

No grade school shapes students to become proud followers of music. It's just another educational tool which helps develop skills in children, just like art class or gym class.
It is amazing that Fret's point even has opposition. My god people...god cannot honestly give a siht whether you learn the trombone or not. Jeez louise!!!

I think you are not muslim ....(sorry if i'm wrong)
but if u are not then you will never be able to understand my point ...so just ignore it and relax:)
Afia, you live in Germany, correct? I was just wondering, out of curiosity, if you allow your children (or will allow when they are older) to go to German public school.
I played saxophone in High school and was in the marching band, and took piano lessons..Its good for a child to take an interest in the arts. look at Adnan Sami, fastest keyboard player, i'll be rich if my kid is like that, as long as he stays away from doughnuts ;)

I played the Trombone in highschool. Brass instruments are cool, but there is too much spit involved :D
sure i wud allow my kids to learn how to play instruments or even persue their careers in music if they like. what ever makes them happy within limits ofcourse. :)

A career in music is tough, but it can pay off. However it's important that one has something to fall back on.

sorry ...i know we both can go on and on ....but for nothing .....to me everything is evil described as evil by Hazrat Muhammad (peace be upon him)....so i'm afraid i 'll not question anything just because i'm not aware of its bad effects ....i'm muslim n that means i'm accepting everything as it is told ...no questions on my part :)

Would you not agree that the proper recitation of the Holy Quran is very melodic and musical?

yes Mehnaz i do live in germany ....:)
but as they say where there is a will there is a way ....i've searched for a very good islamic school here which itself is organized by converted german muslims ....so i don't think i need to send my kids to public school :)
but right now they ARE going to a state run day care n i'm happy to say ...i do go an extra mile if its needed but don't comromise on my religion ...afterall germany is a democracy ...so why i should be barred from what i like to practice ....:)

oh fret :) tell me , you were all along talking about this 'music' :)

Well Afia, Music is music :) All music is comprised of melody, and is one and the same. So how is music evil if the proper recitation of the Holy Quran is done musically?
fret ...u understand very well ...which music you were talking about
to me chirping birds to flowing river everything is a music ...but i'll say evil to one which is not natural n is disliked by holy prophet
now don't twist it ...you understand my point very well ...don't you :)
poor Afia, brainwashed by society and the mullahs to the extent that she is left being against something without even knowing why she's supposed to be against it in the first place..
I'd only like to bring one point up.. if one criticizes scientific research and discards it for being everchanging, one must wonder at the absence of religious research and why they think research declaring something to have come from the prophet cannot be discarded in favor of later research finding the earlier dogmas untrue and fabricated.
read the Qur'an and you'll find appeals to humanity to look around and observe their surroundings.. the universe works on principles which are mathematical in nature and so is music.. it's a part of this world we live in.
