I’m dabbling with a lot of business ideas these days as inshallah I wana start my own business. Anything. But I’m not sure what. I don’t have much capital lolz but I do have some ideas in mind and ofcourse motivation and will to work hard. I think thats the best capital.
And ofcourse if the business gets started off then I can avoid doing grad school which is a major incentive
One of my best friends who’s in California and I have been thinking for some time (since my senior yr in college) to start an import export business. She’s already got a small business of her own in Cali but we wana work together on import export.
I’m wondering though, how exactly do you get started on an import export business between Pakistan and USA? And what kind of products would be hot products?
I’m looking at the Export Promotion Bureau’s website http://www.epb.gov.pk/ and reading the info there already. Its really neat. But I’m also trying to find individuals who do import export so I can talk to them and get advice too.
Does anyone have any tips/suggestions/experiences to share?
Congratulations of your decision to become and entrepreneur. But may I ask why it that you want to import and export is? I think one of the biggest issue you would have to face is Quality Control. I have heard n number of stories about suppliers supplying not what they exhibited as the sample.
You could visit the Small and Medium Enterprise Development Authority website.
It would give you a lot of ideas and answer a lot of your questions * as they cater to the need of new or small business helping them in all aspects. Providing technical training as well as analysis and studies. On their website they have feasibility studies of some small business ideas.
They even offering a training and guess what a Diplomat in export management is also offered.
As for products they could range in any field. I think you should also be familiar in the field of product that you want to enter. I am sure the guppies in US are in a better position to tell you but a few over the top of my head would be…
Fabrics
You could get in to finished products like bed sheets and towels and stuff. On my lat visit I also noticed that there was a lot of wide and attractive range of fabrics for curtains. Fabrics for Upholstery.
A friend of mine in was thinking about providing hotel chains and motels fabrics like bed sheets towels and stuff. Customs made for them with their log in embroidery or what ever on it and stuff….
Comforters.

**1-**it is for you to decide what is a hot product.
**2-**It is really really diffictult to get an advice from a person who is doing it him/her self. I tell you that from experiance. The people in the ‘subcontinent’ region are rearly any help when you want to start what they are already doing.
**3-**Outsourcing is very hot now a day in Pakistan. Try to work on htat. Since I also wanted to do it. I may be able to help you but very little. : )

thanks a lot guys will keep u updated if the plan materialises. i’m debating between this and opening a small school in karachi. and im still in planning phase, like really early initial stage or im ight just do grad school n forget abt these ideas. so lets see what happens. will defintiely let ya guys know though
Have you thought of arranging conducted travel tours for goras to Pakistan. I am sure there are many parts of Pakistan that amriki travellers would go to only is someone could look after all the details. Good luck.
