What if the attacks are on a woman's character and reputation? I understand it's different for men. Society holds women to a much higher standard and the repurcussions can be more serious.

To accuse a chaste woman is a major sin.

“And those who accuse chaste women, and produce not four witnesses, flog them with eighty stripes, and reject their testimony forever. They indeed are the Faasiqoon (liars, rebellious, disobedient to Allaah)”[al-Noor 24:4]

And its not allowed to spy or backbite.

“And spy not, neither backbite one another. Would one of you like to eat the flesh of his dead brother? You would hate it (so hate backbiting). And fear Allaah. Verily, Allaah is the One Who forgives and accepts repentance, Most Merciful.”[al-Hujuraat 49:12]

But at the end of the day, you cant change what others do, so unless you can teach them that what their doing is wrong, best to just ignore and avoid them.

But what about a woman who is chaste in every way now, but at one point in her life didnt' behave so chastly?

Is someone allowed to throw that in her face in the present? When someone from the past shows up, who has hte power to ruin your hard-earned reputation, what can you do?

not really..we can not accuse any one of unchastity unless we have 4 eye witnesses to the act of intercourse, and even then we can only tell that to the authorities not spread rumor. inshallah may allah bless the people with patience when ever they suffer these calamaties....
