Immunisation is Unislamic - Cleric

Granted this is an isolated case but it goes to show the power individual clerics have in issuance of Edicts/Fatwas. Obl was such an example - he was a qualified scholar, a shaykh who can ISSUE his own edicts/fatwas.

The on-going immunisation exercise against polio and other killer diseases in the northern zone, sponsored by the Federal Government and some international organisations, has come under-serious attack by an islamic scholar.

Speaking during the official commissioning of Madrasatul Daru/Daawa in Sokoto over the weekend, the Chief Imam of Kundila Housing Estate Kano, Mallam Ibn Usman stated that the exercise was totally unislamic.

**Usman pointed out that Islam as a religion was against the prevention of any disease that require immunisation exercise citing many verses from the Holy Quran to back-up his claims.

He called on any islamic scholar to come out and show those verses in the Holy Quran and the Hadith of the Prophet that justify the exercise.**

According to him, the ongoing immunisation exercise against polio was an attempt to spread what is alien to the culture of the northern people, adding that there were some verses in the Holy Quran that could be used by muslims to cure their illness.

Usman who later addressed muslim umah at a gathering within the Sokoto metropolis reasoned that it was when some international organisation started such immunisation that other deadly diseases such as AIDS began to spread in the country.

The islamic scholar told the gathering that they should be watchful because a child that has no polio and vaccinated against the disease, would eventually be attacked by another deadly disease.

He, therefore, advised the people of Sokoto and its environs to shun any form of immunisation as it is dangerous to their general health condition.

I am no Islamic scholar, but this is just simple common sense.

Quran 5:32 “…and if any one saved a life, it would be as if he saved the life of the whole people…”

In the Hadith, we read: “A strong believer is better and more beloved to Allah than a weak one.” (Reported by Muslim)

The Prophet (pbuh) says: “Your God has rights over you. Your body has rights over you. Your soul has rights over you. Give each his due rights”.

You have to try your best first and then put your trust in Allah!!

Hadith: One day Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) noticed a Bedouin leaving his camel without tying it and he asked the Bedouin, “Why don’t you tie down your camel?” The Bedouin answered, “I put my trust in Allah.” The Prophet then said, “Tie your camel first, then put your trust in Allah”. This hadith was reported by At-temizi and Ibn Majah.

Hmmm…he may be right here, AIDS can spread through use of contaminated needles. But then he should ask his fellow Muslims to make sure that disposable needles are used, not ban immunization completely.

Yes! If one looks at it this way then he is correct!

IMMUNISATION does not exist in the quran & sunnah and as such is a bida!

Airplanes, peanutbutter, daal-chawal, mp3 players, Johnson Baby Lotion... none of these are in the Koran, should we stop using these too???

  • funny report though... *

Someone also said before Apollo 11 that they can never go to the moon, when they finally did, maulvis said they ae lying!!!

You can only paint with the colors you're given...

Bida is something that contradicts Islam, as I have already shown there is nothing contradictory about keeping people healthy. In Islamic law there are four fields:

  1. Quran
  2. Sunnah
  3. Qiyas (Analogy)
  4. Ijma (Consensus)

By Qiyas (analogy) immunization is in cognizance with the spirit of Islam.

Molvis think EVERYTHING is un-Islamic, they should do us a favor and make a dictionary with everything they
think is Un-Islamic from A-Z. All we will be left with is our Shalwar Kameez.

Are you sure its '5:35'???

Read 5:35 :
O ye who believe! do your duty to Allah, seek the means of approach unto Him, and strive with might and main in His cause: that ye may prosper.

Thats probably why they would allow us to keep it on…

You are right, its not 5:35, it is 5:32, thanx for correcting me, apparently the Yusuf Ali translation I have on my computer has wrong numbering.

And yeah I meant Ijmaa, not Ijtima, guess its been a while since I gave my O-levels Islamiat paper

Only thing Islamic according to Pakistani Mullahs is Lota, Shalwar Kameez and beard.

Shalwaar Kameez’s are haraam.

Only abayas, niqaabs, and those long white dresses the arabs wear are halaal.
