As we all know the process for IMG is very difficult here in Canada, the main obstacle being finding a resdincey spot in Canada. So the alternative would be to go to the USA. Can someone explain the procedure an IMG (living in Canada) would have to go through to go to the USA. Also after completing residency in the USA, what would one have to do to come back to Canada to practise.
well lillac,
the process for an IMG living in canada wanting to apply in US is the same for an IMG coming from anywhere else.
The entire process starts with taking the USMLE parts 1 & 2, the TOEFL, and the CSA exam and passing them. Then you can apply for a residency here in the US. Once the residency is completed, if you dont have visa issues, you can stay here and work OR the alternative is to take the Canadian exams, pass their exams and work there. I've heard the Canadian exams are just as difficult as the USMLE. So, sometimes its better to take the canadians boards along with the USMLE. This entire process turns out to be extremely expensive. So, make sure you have an income coming in!
GOOD LUCK!
After completing residency in USA, what exams does one have to complete to come back to Canada?
Is USMLE (USA) and MCCEE(Canada) similar in content and difficulty? Is one easier than the other? Does preparing or writing one these exam help prepare for the other one?
Also what are the chances of IMG in Canada get a residency position in the USA?

After completing residency in USA, one has to take the Canadian boards (i'm not sure what they are called).
USMLE and Canadian boards are similar in content and difficulty (from what i hear, since i havent taken the canadian exams, but have heard of a lot of ppl talking about them
I think the USMLE might be slightly easier than the canadian boards.
And yes, preparing for one exam does help with the other.
IMG in Canada can get a residency in US, but chances are similar to someone who is still physically in pakistan.
the above mentioned are just my opinion on the matters at hand, someone else might have a different opinion and different experience
