RGST virtually in force, IMF to release tranche
IMF will restore loans prgramme for Pakistan after July as all of its demands have been met.

**Sources said Pakistan has met most of the demands put forth by the International Monetary Fund. Most demands regarding the Reformed General Sales Tax (RGST) have been implemented while reforms in the power sector are in the process. Similarly, tax exemptions have been done away with.

**Sources said Pakistan is likely to get $1.6 billion following talks with the International Monetary Fund in the next month. The talks are likely to be held in the third week of July in Islamabad or Dubai.

Sources said the IMF will restore loans for Pakistan after the talks and Pakistan would get at least $1.6 billion. Out of $11.billion loan, Pakistan has so far got $8 billion. The loan programme has been suspended for the last one year. Sources in the Finance Ministry said budget deficit is feared to top Rs 960 billion this fiscal.

** People of Egypt tell IMF to get lost!!!

Egypt has dropped plans to seek loans from the International Monetary Fund and World Bank, Finance Minister Samir Radwan has said.

An adviser told AFP news agency the decision had been partly a response to the **“pressure of public opinion”.

Many of those who took part in Egypt’s uprising denounced the role of the IMF.**

It was seen as bolstering the rule of now-deposed President Hosni Mubarak while **imposing harsh economic conditions that benefited the rich more than the poor.**

even the people of egypt can see the poison of taking IMF loans yet our corrupted rulers have no shame how can they when they even go to the level of using military on their own people!

Re: IMF

oh man :(

Re: IMF

I am no supporter of PPP but I doubt having PLM-N would have made any difference.

Re: IMF

Absolutely. These regulations are on the backs of the poor and middle class people of Pakistan. We are continuing that descent downwards -- instead of expanding our economy, clamping down on corruption, this government has saddled the country with additional debt...but then again, who is really surprised when you have Zardari running the show?
