NEW YORK: IMF director general Dominique Strauss-Kahn was arrested Saturday minutes before he was to leave for France, after being accused of a sexual attack on a hotel maid in New York, The New York Times reported.

Strauss-Kahn, widely expected to be a candidate for president of France in 2012, was taken off an Air France flight by officers from the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and turned over to Manhattan detectives, according to a Port Authority spokesman cited by the Times.

“He was accused of a sex attack on a maid at a Times Square hotel earlier in the day,” the report added citing the same authorities.

Strauss-Kahn, who has not announced whether he will seek France’s presidency, was arrested at John F. Kennedy International as he waited for his flight to France to depart.

In Washington, an IMF spokeswoman had no immediate comment.

Strauss-Kahn’s stint at the helm of the International Monetary Fund in Washington does not officially end until September 2012, several months after the scheduled date of France’s vote.

But the French political world has been buzzing with speculation that the man popularly known as DSK would bring a premature end to his tenure and throw his hat in the ring.

Some opinion polls have suggested he would win the vote if he were to run.

Re: IMF chief arrested in New York, accused of sexual attack: NYT

I got the same question. Does IMF president enjoy diplomatic immunity?

Just curious.

Re: IMF chief arrested in New York, accused of sexual attack: NYT

Looks like he does have diplomatic immunity:

Section 4 (couldnt get the name of this law, but may be someone else can):

Representatives of members at meetings convened by a specialized agency shall, while exercising their functions and during their journeys to and from the place of meeting, enjoy the following privileges and immunities:

(a) Immunity from personal arrest or detention and from seizure of their personal baggage, and in respect of words spoken or written and all acts done by them in their official capacity, immunity from legal process of every kind;

So now lets see what the "diplomatic immunity" brigade has to say now.

Re: IMF chief arrested in New York, accused of sexual attack: NYT

It is not yet clear if he has diplomatic immunity. May be he does, which is why he has not been charged yet.

BTW, do you guys know that he is a Jew?

“His family is of mixed Sephardic and Ashkenazic Jewish origin”

He is/was in a position to challenge Sarkozy for French presidency. So this scandal may be considered bad news in Israel.

I hope he does not have diplomatic immunity.

Re: IMF chief arrested in New York, accused of sexual attack: NYT

"The International Monetary Fund is now fcking Americans too. "

Re: IMF chief arrested in New York, accused of sexual attack: NYT

he does not have diplomatic immunity

Re: IMF chief arrested in New York, accused of sexual attack: NYT

Why should it be a bad news for Israel?

Sarkozy himself is a Jew, so I don’t see here a relationship to the fundamental question of “diplomatic immunity”.

Does he have diplomatic immunity? Most probably yes, if yes why has USA arrested him?

Re: IMF chief arrested in New York, accused of sexual attack: NYT

According to http://www.imf.org/external/pubs/ft/sd/index.asp?decision=DN22

***Selected Decisions and Selected Documents of the IMF, Thirty- Fifth Issue – B. United Nations Convention on the Privileges and Immunities of the Specialized Agencies and Annex V

Section 4, (a), as written in my first post he enjoys diplomatic immunity.

Re: IMF chief arrested in New York, accused of sexual attack: NYT

IMF is poison anyway and these are the kind of disgusting people who force countries like pakistan to implement policies how can you even trust them to run a bike let alone a country!

Re: IMF chief arrested in New York, accused of sexual attack: NYT

Maybe he had booked a prostitute to come dressed as a maid, but then the real maid showed up; cue misunderstanding, confusion, and a laughter track.
If he is guilty, ****ing loon.

I wonder who will get his job.

Re: IMF chief arrested in New York, accused of sexual attack: NYT

He does not have diplomatic immunity.
As per NPR.
His bail was denied by a judge for fear of flight. He is on suicide watch in solitary confinement. He raped a West African Muslim woman who is a hijabi woman and the hotel staff swears of her good character.
Police interviewed her and grilled her and found her statements to be true and arrested him.
Apparently he was fleeing , he called hotel to ask them if they found his cell phone which they did, police was there at the time when he called so the NY police called airport police to hold the airplane . Only 10 minutes were left in the departure of the flight when NY police got on the plane and told him that they have his cell phone and will give it to him outside the plane when he came out of the place they handcuffed him.

Re: IMF chief arrested in New York, accused of sexual attack: NYT

Ah! Someone don't like IMF chief for what ever reason ! :)

Re: IMF chief arrested in New York, accused of sexual attack: NYT

If this is a conspirary, which to me, this theory should not be excluded, it would make sense

a) he is one of the most powerful men in the world
b) he is a potential candidate AND winner of the 2012 presidential elections in France

makes me wonder, why would anyone like him risk his career when it's at its peek, and how is it possible that a 62 or something year old man would force a healthy black lady to perform oral sex on him, just by using his "strength", really ?

any way, guilty or not, i don't agree with americans being so proud of the fact that they treat everyone the same way, it's ridiculous. he is not the same, and he should be treated differently because the impact is different, at least to prevent all the media to use this case as it was a sort of show or circus

Re: IMF chief arrested in New York, accused of sexual attack: NYT

According to media he has a reputation as a womanizer.

Read more about his sex escapades here:

Re: IMF chief arrested in New York, accused of sexual attack: NYT

I know he has buddy, but again, you know how the media works...
and if had to choose between, him, Sarkozy and Le pen, i'l honestly go for the womanizer

Re: IMF chief arrested in New York, accused of sexual attack: NYT

He could have just get rid of this woman who gave him too much troubles. Laws aimed at governing human sexual behavior have never failed to produce debate. I even heard that not only does the legislation make prostitution illegal, but the recent amendment to the legislation is so broadly worded that it may conceivably make acting sexy illegal in itself. Here is the proof: Utah anti-prostitution law bans acting sexy, newstype.com. So very careful and be nice.
