Imam Mahdi...Who he is...

I am sure with all this talk of Mirza Ghulam Ahmed Qadiyyani and the promised Mahdi, some of you not aware would be wondering what everyone is talking about and why Muslims are so resentful of the presence of Ahmedis.

Here are a list of attributes which Imam Mahdi shall possess.

You should compare this to the claims of Ahmedis that Mirza Sahib is the promised Imam Mahdi…

Keep in mind, the only way for any Mahdi, or any Prophet, for that matter, to bring about change or anything else, is that he be alive…

Mirza Sahib has been buried now for more than half a century…

The Holy Prophet Muhammad(SAW) has prophesied about several events that will occur just before the advent of the day of judgment. Among these, Rasulullah(SAW) has foretold the advent of one of his descendants, Al Mahdi (the guided one), which will materialize when the believers are severely oppressed in every corner of the world. He will fight the oppressors, unite the Muslims, bring peace and justice to the world, rule over the Arabs, and lead a prayer in Mekkah at which Isa(pbuh) (Jesus) will be present.

Throughtout the history of Islam, a few individuals – driven either by the desperate state of Muslims in their community or a selfish pursuit of power and prestige – laid claim to being Mahdi and found a following among the uninformed masses who were looking for salvation from the heavens. For some of these individuals (like Bab of Iran or Mirza Ghulam of India) the claim to being Mahdi was just a stepping stone to the development of heretic sects which broke away from the fold of Islam. Thus, it is at least prudent to visit the facts of this prophecy and avoid falling pray to false claimants that will appear from time to time.

As Muslims, we should remember that the prophecy about Mahdi is one that will come to pass. This prophecy, however, does not absolve the Muslim ummah from its duty to strive in the cause of Allah(SWT), oppose injustice, and seek peace and betterment of human condition. Centuries have passes from the time of the holy Prophet(SAW) and there is a good possibility that many more will expire before the advent of Al Mahdi. Muslims who are negligent in their duty hoping for a savior are committing a grave mistake and are not following the divine decrees ordained in Quran or taught by Rasulullah(SAW).

Mirza Ghulam of India ? i accept him as prophet since he is from india.
no problem.:)

Just tell me how many times "Mahdi" has been mentioned in Bukhari and Muslim??

Different sects in Islam have a very different understanding of Mahdi. For example, some sects of Shia believe in them to be thier missing Imam, others think it can be someone else but have to be from the progeny of Hazrat Muhammad (saw), and yet a few who expect him to be from a persian desent. I have heard some of the Sunnis who believe his name to be Muhammad Ahmad and his parents name as Amina & Abdullah.

I don’t think many here know about another climant of being Imam Mahdi in Sudan.
The best known of these in the West was Muhammad Ahmad, 1844–85, a Muslim religious leader in the Anglo-Egyptian Sudan. He declared himself in 1881 to be the Mahdi and led a war of liberation from the oppressive Egyptian military occupation. He died soon after capturing Khartoum. In his reform of Islam the Mahdi forbade the pilgrimage to Mecca and substituted the obligation to serve in the holy war against unbelievers. His followers, known as Mahdists, for a time made pilgrimages to his tomb at Omdurman. The final defeat of the Mahdists in 1898 at Omdurman by an Anglo-Egyptian army under Lord Kitchener gave Great Britain control of Sudan.
He indeed in many ways fits the role of a Holy Warior type of Mahdi that Muslims these days are longing for.

Oh and as far as the topic of Mirza Sahib claiming to be Imam Mahdi according to the Hadiths is concerned, many leaders of Ahlay Hadiths of his time used to bring them to question.

Muhammad Hussain of Batalla, was one of them, and used to mock quiet often that according to the Hadiths Esa (as) along with Imam Mahdi will slaughter all the swine. But Mirza Sahib have never killed one .. and so he demanded that to prove himself he should go on a mission to kill all the pigs of the world.

Mizra Sahib argued that the Hadiths should not be taken literally but in metaphorical terms. It is not the purpose of a prophet to go start killing animals. He pointed out that the Un-Islamic culture & norms are the swine in the Hadiths, and through following the spirit of true Islamic teachings, he & his followers will in the end over come all such cultures & establish the Sunnah of AnHazoor (saw) & his sahaba. But Mulvi Muhammad Hussain Sahib insisted that all pigs should vanish from the earth!

I have seen many of my friends argue on little things like such and I tell them, I would much rather follow an Imam who will argue in defense of Islam, rather than who might offend the animal right's activists of the world & destroy the eco-system all together. But if they chose to wait for such a leader, they are more than welcome to.

I haven’t read it myself…but i found this website… it seems interesting.
