Imaginary Friends

Is it normal and healthy for kids to have imaginary friends? Both mine have them; they have names, lives and everything possible. Sometimes they even come with us on trips. The older one doesn’t talk much with them anymore…maybe she doesn’t feel the need now that she’s older..

I never had one as a child, or maybe I just don’t remember. Sometimes it’s really cute to hear the kids talk to them with real expressions and feelings. It’s quite creative I suppose. I did check with their doc :smack: the paranoid mother that I am] and she said it’s quite normal at this age when kids are in the process of discovering their lives.

Re: Imaginary Friends

My daughter talks to her stuffed toys and sometimes to herself, she doesn't have an imaginary friend yet.... at least not that I know of.

Re: Imaginary Friends

No imaginary friends yet, but my 23 month old also talks to her stuffed toys all the time. They go everywhere with us. She feeds them, puts them to sleep, gives them timeouts, gets angry at them, hugs and kisses them... all the while calling them by her name. Although, she calls them by their own names when talking to us.

Re: Imaginary Friends

My sister had one and her name was "zeba". We still make fun of her to this day (she's 20+ now) but it's perfectly normal.

Re: Imaginary Friends

They are not imaginary . They are real , if you cannot see them it is your loss not your kids loss.:halo:

Re: Imaginary Friends

I dun have kids but Iused to have imaginary students.. I loved to teach while growing up so I used to grab my mom's bag n heels and teach kids.. mostly doing my own homework in a way that I was doing it for my students :D

oh and sometimes I used to teach plant pots and they all had names :D

now I look back and laugh.. how silly I was :$

Re: Imaginary Friends

i have one.

Re: Imaginary Friends

sweetif is not imaginary, she is just spooky.

Re: Imaginary Friends

aww thats cute:)
Nothing to worry about. I had imaginary friends with funny names when i was little. I turned out to be quite like all normal girls (at least according to people). Maybe your kids dont find someone real trustworthy for this kind of friendship.

Re: Imaginary Friends

i never named mine and stuff.but i talked to imaginery characters made in my mind...like they changed depending on what i was playing : D but yea i talked n all..so i guess its ok? some people dont come out of the habit though..

Re: Imaginary Friends

My daughter has a few too. My son never did. Its normal.

Re: Imaginary Friends

My youngest still has hers…her name is Roula and she’s from Japan.

My eldest no longer has one; her imaginary friend (Beatrice) was sent away to boarding school :naak:

It’s nothing to worry about Niks…they grow out of it eventually! :hugz:
