Image Upload Suggestion

Hello,

As we all know that there is a limit on the file size of an image, which I believe is somewhere around 150KB. These days alot of us have digital cameras and the resolutions on those things are pretty high. This would mean that we would have to resize our images so that they are below or equal to the limit. I am not asking that the limit of the maximum file be raised. The following is my suggestion to make GS image uploading more convenient.

When an image is uploaded, it is transferred to your server (even if its bigger than 150KB), and then if it is indeed bigger, we get an error message and if its smaller, we are all set to go. However, what if you guys make it such a way that if its bigger than 150KB, it can automatically by resized at your end. This way we wont have to do the resizing each time we decide to upload our pictures to GS using our imaging software, which to be honest is quite a painstaking process and half the time I decide to post something at image gallery, the thought of resizing the images puts me down.

I have seen this implementation being done in a few sites, and if you guys are selling on ebay, you will see that if you upload your product image on ebay, it gets resized automatically. Something similar would be of a great help to guppies when they decide to post their pictures, especially these days when high resolution digital cameras and scanners are so prominent. So please let us know if such an auto-image-resizer is possible or not.

Thank You

so its now possible?

We did implemented a file-size utility on our end to compress the files... but the members kept on complaining that the picture quality gets screwed up. So we removed any tinkering with the pics on our end. Now, members are requested to resize the pics themselves and be sure of the quality BEFORE they upload.

Your suggestion of reducing the pics only if they are above a certain filesize is interesting. We'll see if our techies can implement that, but there can be no guarantee that you will not hate the results once the pic is then displayed after compression. So its better if you keep the process in your own control :)

Thank you for your response :) Just one addition though, if the image is reduced in size with the same proportions and ratios, maybe that will not result in quality getting messed up.
