Religious:
Architecture - place of religious significance, doom of the rock, etc.
Caligraphy - again, name says it all.
Personalities - hmmmmmm.. yup name says it.
Misc. - sub-misc category of lets say nothing fits in the above three YET it has to do with religion.

Faizan .. that wud b way too many categories just for Image Gallery.. isnt it ?!? .. I agree with Baywaqoof with this one..just few major ones will b okay..My Suggestion wud b
baji :) no matter HOW we would come up with plans, there is ALWAYS gonna be differences in other people's minds..
surely we canNOT please everyone.. right? what draft i made was keeping many other concerns in mind AS well.. right now the plan is only in discussion releases, lets say ONE solid plan is implemented and then comes the concern of administrating it too..
anyway, what i am saying here is, that we cant please everyone, so azkar bhai, and rest of the adminteam will be the ones deciding the final decision BASED upon the feedback..

While making various categories for different kinds of posts seems very intriguing, one should also remember that doing so could reduce the level or participation significantly.
Take Pakistan Affairs for example. A guppie whose name I don't remember, suggested that we should make a separate forum for topics related to Armed Forces of Pakistan. While there may have been an increased interest in Defense topics recently, how often do you think, 'new defense topics' will come up?
The more forums we have, the more cumbersome it becomes to visit them all. I honestly feel that threads opened in 'family,' 'health' and 'culture' forums would have received much more attention had they been started in General Forum.
Making a lot of sub-categories will mean fewer threads in each forum, which will result in fewer responses, and thus reduced overall participation.
No offense to confused, but who will post in all those new forums?
Having one forums with 10 new threads a day is much better than having 10 forums with one thread each?
I think we already have ‘a few’ too many forums! Think about it, **Admins*, that is all. * :)
By the way, the comments in my previous post had a 'discussion forum' bias to them, i.e., nobody comes to gupshup looking for images on pakistan, or looking for any images for that matter.
If the goal is to have a gallery where people can find images about pakistan, then may be Pak.org needs to have a separate section, in addition to gupshup, where guppies can submit images.
Adding all these categories to a discussion forum, in my view, will not serve the purpose.

My suggestion is a little more radical, but here goes:
Can you take Image Gallery out of the currect Gupshup setting. I mean ue an entirely different script, where users can post images, and images only and then then people - and the original poster - can reply with comments and discussions. You should however retain the same user accounts, profiles etc. to make things easier, just like you have done with the chat app.
The new section should also have picture ratings, and top rated and top discussed picture/photo tables.
And btw, if you plan to create new forums inside a new Image Galleries forum-group, what are you going to do with the old forum. Is there a plan to distribute all old threads into the new forums depending on their category... That's a lot of work... would you like me to help???

Confused has a good list of the sub-categories. IMHO, As long as there are not too many of them, it will keep things orderly.
Too many sub-categories will lead to folks posting images in wrong sections and this will ofcourse lead to mods closing/deleting/moving the threads to the correct sections
how about leaving the image gallery go as it is, and still make diff catagories or folders and once a thread goes off the first page transfer it to the appropriate catagory, so if ppl want to look for pics they know where to find them...
another thing, what if a member has posted pics that relate to 2 diff. cats. in the same post, like today I saw this post which had pics of Pakistan and persoanl pics of the guy in the same post, how are u going to deal with that.
one thing that could be done (which would take a lot of time) is make a diff. fourm for pics and keep adding "just the pics" into diff. cats. there once they have been posted in img..
actually .. thats how it would be if we went that route … the image gall will be seamlessly integrated into GS but may also be reached as www.pakimages.com. all will run from the same user database.
i agree with you all that lots of cats will confuse … we will have smaller, more orgnized cat set … its the same kid of discussion when we started increasing the number of forums … the basic idea is to give ‘browsing’ power to the visitors .. did you know that only ~ 17% of our visitrs actually post anything on GS??? Many people just come to know us and pakistan … people here may know how to dig info but what about the visitors? …
