Im not a happy camper these days...

Re: Im not a happy camper these days...

^I am sorry I am in the habit of not ready whole post. But have you tried making you self tired as In after-work-out-tired.
That don't work for you either?

Tried Tylenol Pm.......made me feel VERY groggy the next day. I've read it has some other unpleasant side effects as well. I'm thinking of trying Benadryl.

Re: Im not a happy camper these days...

Okay, I just woke up about twenty minutes ago...had hoti hai! lol

Redvelvet...my name is Reha and its absolutely wonderful to have bumped into you on these threads! :)

I guess I should try to sleep earlier. I dont do that...I hang out with my family until the wee hours and then pay the price because Im wide awake by the time everyone else is in bed. Thank you Diwana!

You know, my workout routine has been a bit wacky ever since we went on holiday vacation. People have been coming and going, we've been cooking and cleaning, going out, etc. Maybe I should get back into a cold and hard routine again. That might help. THank you PM!

MO3, every so often I pop a Benadryl too...cant help it. Ill get tired but cannot sleep!

I never take naps because if I do, I know Ive just killed the next 48 hours for myself.

Re: Im not a happy camper these days...

Red, I've tried EVERYthing, have had patience for months trying the "textbook" type things suggested even here. With NO results. The ONLY time I get a good night sleep and still feel good/not groggy the next day is Benadryl. I have not tried any type of prescription sleep medication - as tempting as it was to ask my dad for a few of his Ambien CRs, I never did. But Benadryl gives me 7 or 8 hours of YES!!! UN-interrupted!!! sleep so I do it once or twice a month and its really a lifesaver lol...and I wake up feeling good and not groggy. But the majority of the time, I have just learned to deal with feeling exhausted due to lack of REM and look forward to the couple of days that I get my REM with Benadryl :)

Re: Im not a happy camper these days...

You need to get yourself some pills.

I had to threaten my GP for to get some pills. They are amazing!

He only gave me 14 pills though, they worked after 3 nights.

You can get herbal ones too, but the real ones are from the GP.

Thanks EVERYONE for all your advice. Mamaof3, I think I'm gonna get the Benadryl, shoulda bought that instead of the tylenol PM. I think the pharmacist had suggested that as well....although he also said tylenol PM would work too. But can't stand the grogginess. I've also noticed I sleep in fits and starts with Tyelenol PM sometimes.....and I've read other people have encountered the same problem. So Benadryl it is! Ran out of it, so need to get more :)

I need to get back to my evening jogs as well. That way, i feel more tired, and its helps me sleep better:)

Thanks, ALL:)

Re: Im not a happy camper these days...

ok since we're on this topic I'd like to ask whether anyone here on GS has had experience with Ambien CR - its "controlled release" so that while you're sleeping, it helps KEEP you asleep. My dad suffered from chronic insomnia (not that I'm trying to imply that its genetic or anything) but his doc gave him this medicine and he swore by it, always had a nice night's sleep without waking up all groggy he next day. AND its supposedly "non-narcotic" and not addictive...so I'm not quite sure why docs never prescribe it. BUT anyhoo...just wondering if anyone here has tried it and has it worked?

Re: Im not a happy camper these days...

^ Never tried any sort of sleep aides aside from a very occasional Benadryl. The last one I took was over 6 months ago. Time to get some more.

But, Ive heard very good things about Ambien though...supposedly its amazing.

Re: Im not a happy camper these days...

MMo3:
You mentioned you take benedryl once or twice a month. Thats not so bad.

But you do seem to have had 'problem' for a while. Meds are OK for someone not getting results from non-pharmacologic interventions.

Since you already mentioned EVERYTHING then I can only say periodic meds are OK. Getting off in few days gradually is a good thing so one does not develop tolerance.

Alcohol is one reason for "eliminating REM sleep" and even if someone sleeps after alcohol drink, the sleep is not really refreshing. Some meds do contain alcohol.

There has been very good marketing by Ambien (zolpidem) people that it is not addicting.
All meds in this group have potential for addiction and tolerance.

Good thing about benedryl is that it is cheap, easily available and despite side effects many do seem to tolerate it. Men in old age may get problem in passing urine or people with problem with glaucoma.

Making a diary of weekly sleep habit helps a lot for physicians to pinpoint problem at times.

Re: Im not a happy camper these days…

i had a same problem week ago. So, I decided to stay up tall night and all morning next day. Next thing I know, I crashed in my bed by 9pm :k:

And your friendly neighborhood insomniac returns once again to this thread to announce that she is still wide awake! I'm BACK............Muaaahahahahahaahaha (ooh that wasn't exactly a friendly laugh).

It's 1:05, right now. And my goal is to get to sleep earlier today, so that I wake up earlier than 1:30 PM tomorrow afternoon, LOOOOOL.

Oh, PSquared..............where are you??????????????

You know, I just realized that this can go on FOREVER! This thread has the potential to last a very long time, provided the insomniacs come her and regularly update their wakefulness.

Re: Im not a happy camper these days...

Hey Psquared,

It's only 10:45 and I'm soooo drowsy form Tylenol Pm....but I bravely manage to force my eyes open a little longer only to post to this thread out of loyalty....it's the least I can do....since I'm minutes away from going down....yawn.

But you come back here, okay! Carry on the torch.....for this thread. It must not die, LOL.

Sorry I had to betray u my fellow insomniac.......by cramps are no fun.......hence the tylenol pm.

But yes, I wish you peaceful sleep as well.
