I had severe acne my teenage years…and now at my early 20’s…I have light scarring on my skin, it can be covered up with makeup…but my skin doesn’t look the same as before…and I’m not comfortable at all showing my skin without foundation…
I have been hearing a lot about microdermabrasion to get rid of acne scars, and have made my first appointment next week…its $100 dollars for one session and apparently I will need about 4-5 to see results with one every month…so thats like $400-$500 dollars…
It’s kind of expensive for me therefore, I was wondering if anybody around my age or even older has gotten microdermabrasion done for acne scars?? will the results be totally worth the money? will it be a significant change where people will notice my skin getting better? (<–thats how you know it really worked..when ppl notice!)
Also after the 4-5 treatments will my scars be gone for good? Or will I need to keep up with it like forever or else my skin will get blah??

Some helpful members posted in a thread about how to do them yourself at home... using various acids and working your way up in concentration.
My sister had a lot of dark scarring on her forehead and our electrologist did a quick treatment using 80% GLA (not recommended to do yourself!!!). The area was pretty flaky for about a week but when it cleared up I'd say the scars were 50% lighter just from that one treatment.
I'm sure some professional chemical peels tailored to what you need would get you better results than micro-D.... never really heard about impressive results from it.

I've had microdermabrasion and it made no difference at all (I had very slight hyperpigmentation on my tummy).. In my case it was a** total waste of money..**
I'd defo recommend TCA (or other similar peel) instead.. or Retin-A.. that would basically increase the rate of cell turnover so your skin sheds faster..

You said u had an electrologist do it... Can dermotologists do this too?

It maybe a myth or a misconception but microdermabrasian scares me; it gives me an impression of a weird chemical process to artificially improve the skin. It may lead to great results but I don't know why it scares me so much.
