What is the origin of this tradition of welcoming or giving farewell to time started? Is it only in Pakistani culture or other countries follow this?

What are other means / traditions in different cultures to welcome a new year?

In other countries... New year starts with Firework.... concerts... nightclubs dhamal....

Lots of booze, music, screaming, shouting, fireworks, hugging, kissing, lots of partying. Basically all boring stuff, no guns, no firing bullets etc.
