Ijaz Ahmed, the former Pakistan batsman, has been charged by a local court in Lahore in a forgery case. The case has its origins in 2009, when Ijaz was arrestedafter a police complaint by a businessman, for forging a cheque, and spent six weeks in jail before being released on bail.
The court hasn’t issued an arrest warrant and adjourned the hearing until November 10, ordering the prosecution witnesses to appear in court. Judicial Magistrate Imtiaz Ahmed said that Ijaz was on bail and was facing a trial with respect to issuing false cheques worth Rs 10 million (about $104,000).
In 2009, police officials at the Gulberg police station in Lahore said two property dealers had filed a complaint against Ijaz for issuing them cheques that had bounced. At time he was the arrested, he was Pakistan’s national fielding coach.
Ijaz, 44, played 60 Tests and 250 ODIs and was a member of the Pakistan team that won the 1992 World Cup. He was earlier on the selection committee and is currently the fielding coach at the National Cricket Academy.

Re: Ijaz Ahmed charged in forgery case

heard this back in 2009 itself.

Responsibility of being a hero, a legend and an ideal is very big. He was known as a very good sportsman when he used to play, alas he couldnt carry this reputation for good.

Re: Ijaz Ahmed charged in forgery case

Yup, I too remember reading about it back in 2009.

Even saw a thread here in Cricketnama. But anyway, nice to see the case finally reaching it’s conclusion, we all know how the courts function in Pakistan. Regardless, this guy (and Salim Malik) are known crooks. Good cricketers, but pretty low-life duds when it comes to the things that matter. Both are corrupt to the core plus are proven match-fixers.

One thing I’ll give him is that he was a pretty good fielder - the best in the Pakistan team in those days. Pretty good.

Re: Ijaz Ahmed charged in forgery case

My brother was a duty manager of a hotel our national team was staying in. Came night time and Ijaz Ahmad rang and ordered himself a hook _ _

Re: Ijaz Ahmed charged in forgery case

^^

And your brother arranged that ??? :smack:

Re: Ijaz Ahmed charged in forgery case

All things said and done, he was a great player. True he might have lost his way somewhere. I personally believe lot more cricketers were involved in illegal activities than what is being published.

Hope he comes out of this mess. I used to love his batting style...

Re: Ijaz Ahmed charged in forgery case

No. He witnessed the transaction and told me as he knew I am a Pak cricket fan whereas he is not interested in anything to do with the game.

Re: Ijaz Ahmed charged in forgery case

and he has scored probably more runs and more centuries against mighty aussies than any other Pakistani player in our entire cricket history! and that too when aussies were at their peak....6 centuries against Aus..

Re: Ijaz Ahmed charged in forgery case

But, but what was his age when he scored these centuries. :D

Re: Ijaz Ahmed charged in forgery case

sir jee full jawani thee .... didn't you read what patahn bhai told us....his brother "witnessed the transaction"... :Dloved the way patahn bahi explained....transaction...lol...not sure how much he "witnessed"

Re: Ijaz Ahmed charged in forgery case
