Re: IIFA Awards in Toronto
I went.
I went both days - IIFA Rocks Fashion Show on Friday and the actual IIFA Awards show on Saturday.
Friday was spectacular (but I had amazing seats). The MC'ing by Karan Johar and Anushka Sharma was great - chatty but not too in your face. Their was a lot of variety, meaning fashion show, technical awards, musical performances and then item dance songs. Not only that, but the show ended at a decent time. I loved the musical performance by RDB - they were amazing performers who got the energy up.
Saturday - I was in my seat at 7:45pm since the show was supposed to start at 8pm. It did not begin until after 9pm. The show was too long, there were no live musical performances - just dance routines and the MC'ing by Ritesh Deshmukh and Boman Irani was okay - but kind of meh. The show dragged on until past 2am and trying to get out of downtown took forever! The highlight was hearing Dharmendra accept his lifetime achievement award and Asha Bhosle her award - they honestly don't have such classy people anymore. Asha accepted her award and then she ended by singing a few lines of her song: Oh meray sona re - and everyone sang along with her - it was such a sweet and spontaneous moment. The other highlight was hearing the stars speak so warmly about Toronto - you got the impression that they genuinely were surprised and happy by the reaction they got from Torontonians.
Was it worth the money - sure why not, just for the experience's sake. I'm glad I went. Would I go again - probably not unless someone offered me free tickets and I would leave early if it went too long.
Re: IIFA Awards in Toronto
Muzna ,weren’t you were going to the awards ![]()
well i heard that in the end days, ticket was sold for 1500$ ![]()
Re: IIFA Awards in Toronto
anuskha sharma got arrested by customs for not declaring her jewelry at mumbai airport while returning from this event.
This is the second actress in trouble at the airport in one month.
Re: IIFA Awards in Toronto
nah sheen.....when the cost of the tickets was affordable we couldn't decide if hubby was going to be in town or not so we didn't buy.....then when we figured out that we were going to be here the cost was a bit too rich for our taste. ($800/person is the cost of a trip to some exotic place and we'd rather do that with Noor than spend it on an evening watching what we could watch comfortably at home for $1 the next day.)
Re: IIFA Awards in Toronto
I know a few people who bought tickets worth 1500 or was it 150 and sat in places worth 50 dollar tickets. All the tickets were sold out in January only and people who bought tickets later either got the expensive ones or in black. People also went to all the Iifa fever shows...so yeah Toronto did give all the stars a huge welcome, imagine i have people on my facebook who got pictures clicked with flop actors or the ones with very little stardom i.e. Herman Bajeywas etc.
Re: IIFA Awards in Toronto
Herman baweja
LOL Bajeywas sounds like bajey wala :p
Re: IIFA Awards in Toronto
Everything besides SRK won another Award for MNIK
Awesome
SRK Rocks ![]()
Re: IIFA Awards in Toronto
Melody queen Asha Bhosle was given the lifetime achievement award and Bollywood actor Priyanka Chopra performed on her songs.
Dharmendra was given a special award for completing 50 years in the film industry, while Sharmila Tagore was also given award for her achievement in the last 40 years.Surprisingly Sanjay Leela Bhansalis film Guzaarish could not win a single award in the popular category.
it was a nice event this year......
Re: IIFA Awards in Toronto
I just watched it on youtube!!!
Must say I was disappointed..They should have had Ranvir and Anushka performing together instead of just Ranvir and then having Sonakshi join him later!!! Also they should have had Katrina performing...too bad SRK had fractured his knee...the only performance that was worth watching was Priyanka..that lady never fails to impress..she was stunning. I felt something was missing in IIFA this year...not like the past years..and Boman and Ritesh, I felt like they tried too hard...the only part that was entertaining with them was SRK joined them! (Maybe am jst biased coz am a SRK fan).
Re: IIFA Awards in Toronto
I was dragged there by wifey... it was bearable in parts but I think North America is just too far for celebrities from the subcontinent... most big name stars couldn't make it. The best parts were the pre-recorded comedy skits that Ritesh and Boman had put together with the "What if" stuff - my favs were "What if Sanjay Leela Bhansali made Lagaan" and "What if Rajkumar Hirani made Sholay". The buddha guy from the audience breaching security and dropping at SRK's feet was a little too much - I mean c'mon have some self-respect!
Those were the highlights as far as I'm concerned. I was a little disappointed at the arrangements... show didn't start on time and their excuse was that audience wasn't cooperating at getting to their seats. What about all the ushers and staff who could have helped here. Also, the green carpet was being broadcast on the outside screens and not the main screen in the stadium, so many people weren't in their seats because of this. This was a no-brainer and I don't know why they'd decided to neglect the audience that was seated on time for the show while catering to the people standing in lines outside at the last minute.
Prolly the first and last time I go to one of these shows... I'd totally go to a concert/performance but not an awards show.
Re: IIFA Awards in Toronto
I watched the IIFA’s and they were BORING!!! I didnt think any of the hosts did a good job, they all sucked and i didnt find anything they said funny. The performances were boring.
I’d be devastated if i paid that much to watch it live
