This letter appeared in The News today. Isn’t it a shame, in a country where even the fit have a hard time surviving how can you expect anything consoling for the disabled. Can you imagine how the poor mentally and physically challenged feel?
‘Ignoring The Disabled’
By Gulzar Wazir in The News Sep 25, 2002
As a mentally and physically disabled person I was anxiously waiting for the manifestos of various political parties. However, I was dismayed that none of the political parties mentioned the disabled persons, who are the most deprived segment of the society. Nor did the political parties declare what they intend doing for the weal of the disabled. It is evident that political parties of all hues are only interested in grabbing power. As a reaction to this callous attitude of these parties I have decided already to boycott the forthcoming general elections.

(I wish to inform Mr Gulzar Wazir that Jemima Khan, wife of Tehreek e Insaaf chief Imran Khan is probably the only ‘political’ person who has been most vocal and actively involved with charities and care and welfare of the handicapped in many private and public organizations in Pakistan. I am not certain if Tehreek e Insaaf party have mentioned anything specific in their manifesto or not but you may want to vote for them nevertheless. In my opinion they are the most committed-StrayCatsStrut)
