Ignoring Baluchistan

Re: Ignoring Baluchistan

You forget that southern Punjab has a poweful Baloch presence - Im sure the Baloch if they wanted to can put out some protests there.

I dont think the MQM are that bothered about Baloch leaders being killed. the protests are organised and attended by poor forced-to-live-in slum Baloch from Lyari.

Re: Ignoring Baluchistan

Good thread, Iconoclast.

I believe the Govt. needs to take extra steps to ensure that our Balochi brothers and sisters do not feel alienated, and they are given their proper due for the resources. This is help to reduce the tension that is already present. Balochis are die-hard Pakistanis and love the nation and have not been shy to sacrifice for it, when given proper respect that they deserve, there will not be any room left for the bad apples to cause any mischief that can harm Pakistan's integrity. "The hidden hand" will become visible.

Media also needs to focus equally, and as much on Balochistan as it has on frontier in the past months.

Re: Ignoring Baluchistan

About time we take that money we get from taxes and put it to good use. Schools, water and clinics should be set up in quick succession. The strategy is what we employ here in Darfur. Its based on fulfilling the basic needs Maslow defined and working there to build confidence in the implementing partner in this case the Government of Pakistan.

Re: Ignoring Baluchistan

That’s the problem, their own leaders aren’t sincere enough.
That’s part of the reason why Balochistan is still under developed, it was exactly the same before Pakistan was created. Government needs to declare what EXACTLY they will be doing for BALOCHISTAN in front of whole media and then show everyone the progress of those projects. I know it sounds a bit stupid but no one will be able to provide any excuses.

There should be a “Mission Balochistan” or “Project Balochistan” launched as soon as possible with a lot of media hype.

Re: Ignoring Baluchistan

^Aboslutely agree with you on that.

The issue i think is that whenever the Govt. thinks of development for the province of Balochistan, instead of reaching out to the people, the officials always reach out to the MPA/MNAs and other big fish which are usually affiliates of the political parties. The checks and huge amounts of monies get handed to them, and at the end of the day those funds never see the light of the day.

There needs to be more transparency in what is being alotted for the province, and more people-to-people initiatives needs to be taken so every common person can monitor and be a part of the progress. Then and only then will the people be able to hold accountable those in-charge and responsibilities are shared equally.

Media has to play a pivotal role in this, and be a driving force for the people to get involved in overall progress for Balochistan. Whenever people have been involved in oversight of their Govt., it has left little room for the Govt. to backtrack or cause corruption. People must be a part of all provincial and national projects. Give the funds to the people in a way of education, welfare, development by the people for the people, and the finger pointing will soon vanish.

Re: Ignoring Baluchistan

:D

Are Balochis really die-hard Pakistani or is that something which we are led to believe?

Re: Ignoring Baluchistan

^I don't doubt any Pakistani's patriotism. :)

Re: Ignoring Baluchistan

Agreed. The Baluch Sardars have always been exploiters in terms of blackmailing and exploiting their own people.

A provincial assembly of 65 members with 48 Ministers! What does that prove?
