Iftikhar Chaudhry and NRO

why does Iftikhar Chauhdry only see Zardari’s cases in Switzerland and nothing else? I don’t see him mentioning all the murder cases that have been restored now that the NRO has been struck down. didn’t Ishrat-ul-Ebad have multiple murder cases against him that must have been restored now? aren’t there many MQM thugs who had murder cases against them that should now stand restored? one would think that multiple murder cases would be scarier than cases of financial corruption.

so why can Iftikhar Chauhdry only see the cases of one person who benefited from NRO and not the rest who are potentially accused of much more heinous crimes?

Re: Iftikhar Chaudhry and NRO

Perhaps he subscribes to top-down approach? One might not expect small potatoes to respect laws unless the top of food chain is cleaned up.

Re: Iftikhar Chaudhry and NRO

The Governor of Sindh is not a 'small potato'.

He has not even bothered to hear cases regarding other leaders, only Zardari, which is why a lot of people are losing respect for him.

Re: Iftikhar Chaudhry and NRO

I'm not a fan for Zardari, but there is no doubt that CJ is driven by vendetta against Zardari & Co. What he doesn't understand is that he is undermining the system to the point of destroying it.

Btw, why hasn't he gone after Mushrraf, NS, MQM and what about all the missing persons cases? Has anyone heard of anything about the missing person cases lately that turned CJ into what he is now? The guy needs to back off and let the system work.

Re: Iftikhar Chaudhry and NRO

CJ probably wants to go out as "legend" who "fought" against ruler, he "stood up" against Musharraf and now "fighting" against Zardari. May be Nawabzadah Nasrullah's rooh has entered into Ch Iftikhar.

Re: Iftikhar Chaudhry and NRO

When the president issues an ‘ordinance’, at a time when we have a working parliament, to transfer powers from NAB to Law Minister, somebody has to take things up:

Accountability Ordinance promulgated ‘secretly’

The National Accountability (Amendment) Ordinance of 2010 was promulgated in a clandestine manner, as not only the legal community and the nation were unaware but the top officials in the Law Ministry also knew nothing about it.

Law Secretary Masood Chishti while talking to TheNation expressed his complete ignorance and said, “I don’t know any such Ordinance has ever been issued.” He, however, said that the Ordinance was promulgated when the National Assembly and the Senate were not in sessions. “The President is only allowed to issue the Ordinance when there was no session of the Parliament,” he said.

The indecent haste shrouded in secrecy with which powers of NAB Chairman, who is yet to be appointed after consultation with the Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly, have been transferred to the Law Minister may lend credence to the view that the Government is not serious about accountability…*

The supreme court ordered an independent person to be appointed Chairman NAB… the government asked for a few days’ extension for ‘consultation’… the above ordinance is the result of that ‘consultation’.

I am not really sure who is the first to go on the war path!

Re: Iftikhar Chaudhry and NRO

EXACTLY!!!

this is why people supported him... but he does nothing to cases that might involve the army or intelligence agencies... heck not even politicians... there's only one party and in particular only one person he's after.

how about looking into the deaths of the people who gave their lives so that he could be restored and we could have some semblance of rule of law in this country? Hammad Raza? nothing. the ppl who were butchered by Musharraf and MQM on 12th of May? nothing. the lawyers who were burnt alive by MQM? nothing. what about the missing Baloch? nothing. what about Mukhtaran Mai? nothing.

it's unfortunate that he also turned out to be a self serving egomaniac and nothing else. no wonder Aitzaz and co haven't said a word in a long, long time.

Re: Iftikhar Chaudhry and NRO

I am sure this has nothing to do with NRO :chai:

Re: Iftikhar Chaudhry and NRO

how this still the supreme court’s problem? why does Iftikhar Chauhdry have a problem every time the govt changes any official?

a protest was registered against this in the senate. all oppositions parties walked out… and Raza Rabbani (he of the PPP) joined them in the walk out as protest against this stupid change.

THAT is the proper way to change things. THAT is the proper way to protest. it is the job of the opposition to act as the opposition… NOT Iftikhar Chauhdry’s. Iftikhar Chauhdry shouldn’t get horny every time the govt makes a move one way or the other.

Re: Iftikhar Chaudhry and NRO

CJ seems to be hooked on publicity. He takes on the cases that have most media value. I agree with May 12 cases which he and SHC have totally ignored.

Re: Iftikhar Chaudhry and NRO

Missing Persons + 12 May.... Army would never let anyone touch them. Even a mere colonel refused to appear before courts to provide 'information' on missing persons. Iftikhar would want to live I guess, wouldn't want to end up like BB or Bugti.

Re: Iftikhar Chaudhry and NRO

Something sensible after a long time, on the lines of what samb & others are saying:

Re: Iftikhar Chaudhry and NRO

In addition to that what samb said, CJ himself is not a clean person. He has false domicile of Baluchistan and his Dr. Son got FIA position through back door channels. Exposing this fraud resulted in beating up of Naeem Bukhari in the public. He is not parsa or imandaar as he claimed to be.

Re: Iftikhar Chaudhry and NRO

Besides the massive backlog of other cases in the country, what about the ISI case that predates the swiss bank accounts?

Re: Iftikhar Chaudhry and NRO

PCO CJ ko mun ko lagh gaee hai aur mun ko lagee kam hee chooot-tee hai :)

Re: Iftikhar Chaudhry and NRO

These are the very same people who were comparing Iftikhar Chodri to Quaid-e-Azam and his movement to get back his job to Pakistan movement.

Look at what these political opportunists have to say about him now.

Political opportunists know no boundaries, they can stoop to any level if they see an opportunity coming.

Re: Iftikhar Chaudhry and NRO

this guy even not valued as a chaprasi of high court. why dont he only concentrate on quick and fair justice for awam rather than took pangas in politics! he jst forget the kick he got in AXX in past. what a padha likha jahil

Re: Iftikhar Chaudhry and NRO

Perhaps people do live on Gold-fish memory!!!

Has the govt obliged the orders of SC back in December about the NRO and had taken action against all the people instead of protecting them by appointing corrupt persons as prosecutors or playing around by issuing controversial statements and ignoring direct orders of SC... things might have been different...

SC did issue a judgment against musharaf's 3rd Nov act... yet govt have not done anything about it... Balochistan HC has ordered an FIR / Case against Mushy and interior minister and the governor of Balochistan province then... what action has the govt taken on this...

Govt. so far has given the impression that they have no intention to obey the direct orders of the SC... all they have shown is that they are going to play around and would delay everything.. then naturally the head of the govt ( who is zardari by all means) comes under fire...

Not to forget that Govt was all set to bring the NRO in the parliament and took it back ( like always) when its ally, Altaf bhai spoke against it...

The SC verdict on NRO was a golden chance of Zardari and Co. to get a clean chit from the Court of law ( assuming they were innocent and all cases were based on false accusations) but that never happened nor was the intention...

The way some members are criticizing the CJ for following up the cases is like a cry of old MASSI who have got his son / daughter caught in bad act and now trying its best to blame everyone in the society by saying, why everyone is talking about act of my child.. others are corrupt too...
