Iftar time - chat or pakoray first?

Occasionally I have seen people have fruit chat first and then the spicy stuff like pakoray etc … They say it reduces chances of acidity :konfused:

I , on the other hand , jump on spicy stuff first and later go on to eat the Fruit chat …

Whats your preference and does it make a difference , in what order you choose to have your food?

Re: Iftar time - chat or pakoray first?

i eat fruit chaat in the end.................. sometimes even after dinner i m fruit chaat as desert

Re: Iftar time - chat or pakoray first?

With us, we have like the fruit first, sometimes we have a big plate of chopped up fruit, sometimes the chaat. Its just what we do lol. Thens the spicy food etc. Fruit chaat isn't really considered a desert in my family, we have the desert afterwards :)

Re: Iftar time - chat or pakoray first?

yeah I knew some of you like to have chaat first :ASA:

Is there a specific reason why its encouraged to have it in that order? Does it impact on the gastric/digestion issues?

Re: Iftar time - chat or pakoray first?

I eat pakoray, samosay, etc for iftar and leave the fruit chaat for others :D

Re: Iftar time - chat or pakoray first?

/\ Agree with you... :)

Re: Iftar time - chat or pakoray first?

I always have fruit chaat at the end. I prefer eating it after i have ate and prayed so i can enjoy the taste on its own.

Re: Iftar time - chat or pakoray first?

I eat pakoray first so if i get full, i am not missing on pakoras :D

Re: Iftar time - chat or pakoray first?

Pakorayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy first…i love the spicy stuff first:yummy:

Re: Iftar time - chat or pakoray first?

our family not a huge fan of fruit chat rather we have fruit salad (big chunky fruit cubes) after taravee. but my family loves pakoras. i am not a huge fan of pakorza especially in Ramadan.

I personally open my Iftar with dates and juice (i dont like Rooh-afza) and then I eat lill bit of everything.

Chicken Biryani, I don't think there's a specific reason.. I think its that we like to start with the light food, then move on to the bad boy stuff. lol. Plus, we have the fruit before we pray Maghrib, so that way, we have eaten something before praying. Then after maghrib, we have the proper food and we can take as long as we want, instead of rushing.

Re: Iftar time - chat or pakoray first?

I always go for the Pakoras first, i'm not a huge fan of fruit chaat.

Re: Iftar time - chat or pakoray first?

I don't know if there's a specific reason for eating in this order. It could even be personal preference. I've seen some people go straight for the fried food firsts. As Sahds suggested, one possible reason could be that fruit is lighter. And especially for those who are trying to lose weight in Ramzan, fruit might be the first or even main preference.

Here's another idea that came to mind. I have read that when we're fasting....out blood sugar levels are out of whack. And breaking fast with dates help to regulate the sugar levels....or they stabilize the levels quickly. I don't know how true this is.......but going by this theory.....since dates themselves are fruits....maybe fruit chaat is consumed for a similar reason. Foods high in fiber (which includes fruits) provide this benefit.....and the water/fiber content in fruits can help one fee more "fuller" ...so that they're either less inclined to reach for the fried fatty foods....or will do so with moderation.
