iftaari pohn'chana

Back in the days when I was a little kid and living in Pakistan, I don’t remember attending many iftaar parties, instead families used to deliver an item or two of iftaar to thier neighbors.

Everyday, about thirty minutes before iftaar time, some kid would show up with a plate or a tray, telling us that ammi (his mother) ne iftaari bhijwaya hai. My mom used to do the same, at least once every week. Needless to say, every single time we (or anyone in the neighborhood) would distribute(s), a tray would be delivered to the masjid too.

Do we still have this beautiful tradition in Pakistan, especially in urban areas, or we have totally moved on to flashy iftaar parties?

Dang it. This was suppose to be in culture :smack: can someone please do that?

Re: iftaari pohn'chana

We still do here. Everyday people share what they have with others from the mosque or the next door people send something over

Somehow, I have not seen that in USA

Re: iftaari pohn'chana

We have that here too.

Re: iftaari pohn’chana

In urban areas of Pakistan (like Karachi), they do it, but not on daily basis. Its done on a particular roza like Yum e Ali or 27th Ramadan. mehngai :hinna:

Moreover, this tradition vary from area to area… Posh areas like Defense have less observance than poor areas like Lalu khet and Nazimabad.. Umera Ahmed :mocking:

people living in Flats / Apartments share more than people living in Bungalows.

Re: iftaari pohn'chana

We don't have it on a daily basis , but not on particular rozas either. Just random.

Re: iftaari pohn'chana

same here. as a kid, i used to deliver Iftari to Masjid 30 min before the Iftar. every other day or so, i also used to carry Iftari in the neighbourhood. once in Ramadhan, we used to invite one or two people from each house of Zamindars in the village....also, we used to give Iftarii to parjaas [those who served us for no money all year round (used to get grains every year and baKhshish on occasions. they also got a piece of land from us] as well.

it was so much fun!

Re: iftaari pohn'chana
