Iftaari Dinner help!

As ramadan approaches, i’m trying to decide what date to invite everyone over for iftaari.

there will be about 21 adults and 10 children under the age of 7.

every year, everyone first has iftaari, then go for taraweeh prayers, come back and eat dinner.

i would like to do a heavy iftaar, followed by a light dinner, topped off with dessert.

taking all suggestions  fruit chaat, pakoray are always a must for iftaari. but i want something else, something new? any new/different type of suggestions for iftaari and dinner and dessert?

Re: Iftaari Dinner help!

iftari : potato, mix and chicken pakoras, fruit chaat, dhai bhalay, chicken kebabs, vegie rolls, chicken bread, nuggets and fries for kids.

dinner: make any rice dish (pulao, biryani, vegie palu, lamb pilau ) whatever you like wth any dish chicken or mutton korma or karhai wth salad and raita and naan.

dessert: trifle or ice cream

Re: Iftaari Dinner help!

Last year I went to an Iftar where they had cocktail samosas…mini samosas…beef, chicken, potato and also mini egg rolls.
Melon chaat instead of the traditional fruit chaat
Gol gappay
Fried drumsticks
Fried banana peppers
Fried hot peppers
Chicken tenders and/or pakoray
Dahi baray
Chanay ki chaat
Kabab
Spinach pakoray
Paratha rolls of different kinds
Bread rolls of different kinds
Sandwiches
Egg rolls
Chicken patties

Re: Iftaari Dinner help!

After a heavy Iftar, I’d not even do dinner. But if you want to serve dinner…I’d have one stand alone main dish like nihari or payye or haleem or even khaosay with all the fixin’s.

Re: Iftaari Dinner help!

For heavy iftaar you can choose from:

chicken cheese pockets
chicken mayonnaise cutlets
cocktail samosasa either mix or in just one type of meat
cocktail rolls
mini pizzaz
pasta or chowmein or lasagna
malai kebabs
chicken boti or chicken boti paratha rolls
pita bread rolls
drumsticks
jalapeno balls
nuggets
stuffed potatoes
fruit parfait
mini sandwiches ( you can do toasted or batter fried ones)

for dinner just keep one rice dish. may be chinese fried rice or biryani.
for dessert keep icecream or lab-e-shireen or doodh dulari.

Re: Iftaari Dinner help!

how many items should i include in the iftaari for that many people?

also gudiaali, do you have a recipe for malai kababs?

Re: Iftaari Dinner help!

Op, I’ve read that it’s sunnah to eat a little bit, then pray maghrib, then resume eating as it’s hard to pray on a stuffed stomach. So, why not do a light iftari, and simple dinner. Wouldn’t that be easier for u if you’re gonna be fasting as well? You can make 3-4 items for iftar. Dinner can be simple with a rice dish such as biryani, one salan dish such as haleem, and one dry meat dish such as kababs. You can buy premade salad mix bags and toss up a quick salad…u buy a jar of premade cilantro chutney and imli concentrate and if you mix in yogurt u’ll have two different chutneys ready in minutes. Then have a simple dessert.

Re: Iftaari Dinner help!

here it is:
Beef mince: ½ kg
Raw papaya: 2 tbls
Ginger garlic paste:1 tbls
Red spice powder: 2 teas
Salt: to taste
All spice powder: 1 teas
Poppy seeds: 1 teas
White cumin: 1 teas
Black cumin: 1 teas
Almonds:12-15
Seasame seeds:1 teas
Coconut powder: 3 tbls
Yougurt: 2 tbls
Cream: 4 tbls
Bread: just about half small slice for binding purpose.

Marinate mince with raw papaya and ginger garlic past. Set aside.
Roast poppy seeds, seasame seeds, coconut powder, black cumin, white cumin, and almonds. Grind them together.
Now add this masala, red spice, salt, yougurt and cream to mince. Mix well. add bread. Mix well and refrigerate for 4-6 hours.

Then make oval shape kebabs and deep fry on medium heat. Would take about 7-8 mins.
Then put the kebabs in pateli or bowl. Place a coal in center to give dhoni. Cover the bowl with lid tightly.
The spice level is moderate. You can reduce if you like mild or increase if you want spicy version. Serve with tamarind chatni or ketchup.

Re: Iftaari Dinner help!

they sure are delish and so refreshing.
when we were in Scotland last year, my mom made doodh dulari for a dawat where my brothers Scottish friends were also invited.
and oh boy how they loved it. they asked my mom that she should teach my brother how to make that so they can have it more often over there.

i will get the recipes from my mom and post here.
