I’ve been invited to an Iftaari Dawat tonight, and don’t know what to take. I don’t finish work till 5 pm and iftar is at 6:30 so i have only about 1 1/2 hour to make something and get ready. It is custom in our community to take something when going for Dawat. Usually i take a apple pie or fruit salad when it was just me and my husband, but now he’s parents and sister are here too so i don’t want to take something small.

Make a dessert the night before and take that.
Making desserts is pretty quick, but you have to let it cool down sufficiently, so making it a day in advance would be perfect, IMHO :)
P.S. I took a big dish of fruit trifle recently to an iftar party, made from scratch at home (except for the pound cake and fruit :p) and everyone loved it.
Guys , If you ever need any emergency food ideas ... two things will save you :
1- Fruits
2- Fry vegetables ... like cut up baingan / large red chillies / potatoes etc , mix some baisan with spices and a tinge of garlic and coat the vegies and fry them.
takes no more then 15 minutes to get food enough for 6-8 heads.
Thanks everyone, i ended up making the trifle! Had jelly ready made, custard ready made, so just put it all together. i didn't have apples or strawberries, just used canned fruit and bananas. I think it turned out better than if i'd done it with apples though. didn't have cake , but had those italian sponge biscuits. Was really yum!
