Iftaar & Dinner - Two or One?

Back in Pakistan, we used to have an iftaar with various snacks (khajoor, pakoray, dahi bhallay, jalebis, cholay). Then offer maghrib prayers and after an hour or so, have a proper dinner before going for taraweeh.

For the last few years, though, these two two meals are getting a bit too much for me, so I am usually just breaking the fast with khajoor and water, and then just have proper dinner at the right time.

What do you guys usually do? Two or one?

just one big big meal. i tend to wolf down everything in sight as soon as iftar is open. not good i know..maybe i shud work on that during ramzan...

We, almost always, break our fast with khajoor and water (or rooh afza in milk)...and then dinner. My parents are really big on having proper dinner instead of all this other stuff.

Still both...iss key bagher mazaa nahin aata

We eat a normal iftar and no dinner.

So than you don't eat roti?

We break our fast with khajoor eat some pakoras, fries or samosas (basically something fried), than pray Magrib and than eat dinner.

Depends on work schedule, weather and how hungry I feel. Usually I break it with a khujoor, chai and one item dinner. Pray Maghrib. Eat some fruits before going to tarahwee. On weekends I might fry some stuff in addition to above mentioned iftaar.

At iftar parties it's always two over here.

But I always fill up on iftar stuff (it's so yummy!) and have little interest in the dinner.

During the week everyone is rushing home from work in time, and iftar is often minimal and dinner is early.

Mmmmm lussi.

It's usually khujoor, dinner and may be something on the side.

We no longer have snack-type iftaar anymore, as it leaves no room for dinner. In fact, we usually have dinner first and if there's any room left, then we'd have common iftaari stuff.

HAHAHAHAHAHA.

IF I'm not in class when its time to break fast, then I actually put something in my mouth. Khujoor usually. I hate breaking a fast without khujoor.

Last year I had class every day during maghrib. So, I'd break a fast with water. And a khujoor - sneaking it in when the prof wasn't looking.

2 years ago, I had one class during iftari - and the professor was super cool - it was a small seminar class. He used to give us snacks during class. So for me, he'd keep aside some extra cookies - reserved for the girl fasting. :D I love that professor.

Looks like it will be the same this year. Parasilogy and analytic philosophy during iftari. YAY!!!!!!!!!

So, I guess I'll be working with water and khujoor again.

And then a dinner later. - but not necessarily every night - parasitology goes until 9 pm.

:(

Chalo jee - at least I'm not starving.

Bilkul Sahi.

PS: I am 210 lbs

^ Its all the deep-fried stuff, I tell you. Thats why I am now so put-off with that heavy iftaari thing. All those deep-fried pakoray, samosay, bonday etc will be the death of us. Dahi bhalay I can manage cz yogurt always soothes the insides (even with the deep-fried bhalay). Plus, the khajoors are so high in nutrition by themselves. It just requires a lot of self-control.

This reminds me something I gained from Gupshup. This wondergul girl told me about Boondi. It's so easy to make and very soothing too. I like eating it cold. I made a lot of it last year during ramzan. This reminds me I need to do ramzan shopping this weekend.

Mergers all the way.Hence, two in one is what we believe in now.

We eat Iftari cum dinner during ramzaan. No two shifts, thats just impossible.

Whats a 'iftari cum dinner'?. Please explain. Maghrib ki namaaz baa-jamaat nahee pehrtay kia? Woh bhi pakistan may?

Well, after breaking the fast and after having a glass of roohafza and kajhoor we offer our prayers and immediately after that we eat the elaboratemeal that includes all the heavy duty stuff ( whatever's mentioned by Faisal bhai) and the dinner at the same time. But by the time you are done with all that fatty, calorie laden food, you don't feel like eating anything afterwards.

Two :k:

Here is something for you Faisal …Turn back to two..:yummy:
