Re: If you're Pakistani and you're mistaken for an Indian...

wow! what a prejudiced approach. carry on lolz...btw, what's your observation based on? :D
Re: If you're Pakistani and you're mistaken for an Indian...
I don't mind. I do tell them they're close to my origins, since India and Pakistan were one country. Same goes for Bangladesh, that happens less often though. Most questions are about me being from India. (and nowadays, a question that often follows is 'Bin Laden was Pakistani, no?')
Re: If you're Pakistani and you're mistaken for an Indian...
It all depends.... if they were to mistake me for some Indian nerd.... like Raj from Big Bang Theory... I'd be like "How dare you, I'll have you know I am Pakistani, you sir have insulted me and my whole family, therefore you must die!!!" ......If on the other hand I was in a situation where, lets say, an attractive girl was to mistake me for some other Indian, say someone like Shahid Kapoor........
I'd be like "ummmm... sure.... ok, wanna go out sometime?"
Re: If you're Pakistani and you're mistaken for an Indian...
You don't have to. People mistake Pakistanis for Indians all the time...its common.
But the emotions behind it are very strange to me. The vehement dislike some people show is alien to me. The offense (as if their morality was questioned) is almost shocking.
Can one really get that pissed off about it?
I don't think its reasonable at all.
You have to be a Pakistani to understand the feeling. There is a reason, Pakistan and India are called arch rivals, I don't have to elaborate the reason. And no its got nothing to do with looks and colour. If you refer to an Irish as English, he will get offended.
Call a Croat, Serbian, if he corrects you, tell him, Oh you were once the same country, he will not be happy.

yes becoz dey deserve dat hatred :@:
Re: If you're Pakistani and you're mistaken for an Indian...
I rather noticed an odd pattern. Some people view it negatively and are terribly offended, almost to the point of outrage, if they are confused with Indians. Ironically, these same people take it positively and as a compliment if they are mistaken for Arab, Turkish, Iranian, etc. Why is that?
I've heard several people state that they feel offended at being confused for Indian because Pakistan has its own distinct culture and has relatively little in common with India. If people genuinely feel that this is the case, shouldn't they be equally offended at being confused for other ethnicities/nationalities as the culture of these other countries has nothing in common with Pakistani culture either?
I think you didn't read my comment:

I would correct people if they mistook me as Indian or anyother nationality and we should; Canadian get pissed off when anybody calls them American and New Zealanders don't like being called Australian and they have more in common than we do;we're different countries, i should not be expected to accommodate anybody's ignorance.
[/QUOTE]
I think it is true for all ethnic groups when they're mistaken for a darker ethnicity(unfortunately), like if you mistake an Afghan for Pakistani, they would be offended by being compared to a 'daalkhor' but if they're mistaken for Iranian, they feel good about it, sames true for Turks and other mid easterners, they like it when they're mistaken for south euro but get offended if they're mistaken for yemeni or indian.

That's an absurd statement; Pakistan and India are diverse countries and have MANY diverse sub-cultures, there are sub-cultures in Pakistan such as Punjabis and Muhajris that have many commonalities with other North Indians; Eastern Pakistanis have a lot in common with Northwest Indians, nobody's denying that, but ffs some people should learn more about the world.
Re: If you’re Pakistani and you’re mistaken for an Indian…
That’s because the vast majority of Indians in the UK are **Punjabis **and do you know that Punjabis make up less than 3% of India’s population, so saying that the average Indian looks like the Punjabis you see in England would be as absurd as somebody assuming the average Pakistani looks like a Baloch(and they make up 5% of Pakistan’s population!).
If you ever visit America you notice that MOST of the Indians are South Indian or Gujarati and they look like those kids that win the spelling contest every year, i wouldn’t mistake them for Pakistani; the vast majority of Indian in the UK and Canada happen to be Punjabi, so they give a skewed impression of what Indians actually look like.
Re: If you're Pakistani and you're mistaken for an Indian...
"Some linguists hypothesized that Dravidian-speaking people were spread throughout the*Indian subcontinent*before a series of Indo-Aryan migrations. In this view, the early*Indus Valley civilisation*(Harappa*and*Mohenjo Daro) is often identified as having been Dravidian.[6]*Cultural and linguistic similarities have been cited by researchers such as Finnish Indologist*Asko Parpola*as being strong evidence for a proto-Dravidian origin of the ancient Indus Valley civilisation."
Source Google dravidians. Went to one of first pages which was from wiki.
Naangal daan Indus Valley civilization ku responsible.

Complex topic.

I read your comment. My comment was not in response to your comment nor was it directed at you or anyone on GS. I'm referring to people who I have met in real life.

Absolutely not. Afghans do not take pride in being called Iranian. Even Heratis, who live on the border with Iran and are heavily influenced by Iranian culture, do not take pride in this and will quickly correct you and inform you that they are Afghan. In general, Afghan people are offended if they are referred to as anything other than Afghan. Personally though, I find taking offense to be a bit of an overreaction. To each, his own, I suppose.
As far as everyone being offended at being confused for a darker ethnicity, this is quite inaccurate. Not all cultures have the fascination with fair skin that is prevalent among many cultures on the subcontinent. The concept of fairness as desirable or viewing fairness as a virtue is not prevalent in Afghan culture. While every culture has its share of self hating individuals, your statement that Afghans like being called Iranian or southern European is absurd and untrue to say the least.
Re: If you're Pakistani and you're mistaken for an Indian...
one should be proud of what they are and if someones makes a mistake and it's important for you to correct that person then say it politely. no need to get huffy and puffy. i take this issue very lightly. i'm Indian and i'm proud of it but i won't go around making sure everyone i meet has to recognize me as such. it's ok with me if you call me Sri Lankan or Nepali or Oriental.
Re: If you're Pakistani and you're mistaken for an Indian...
and afghans say things like.. i'm a little on the darker side because my ancestors on one side were from kashmir. true story..
Re: If you're Pakistani and you're mistaken for an Indian...
I've had it said to me and it's flat out rude. It's like essentially saying that Pakistan was only meant for fair skinned people, or people who are delusioned into thinking they are from persian descendance, when once upon a time, we were all poor slaves of hindu rulers who converted to Islam because either we were forced to, or we found some meaning in a religion that made us equal in spirit to our oppressive rulers. Syed - sure, whatever.
Pakistan was meant for every muslim on the subcontinent. It saddens me that muslims who chose to stay in India don't consider us equal to them. And it's sad, that those of us who did migrate over are faced with the question "are you indian? oh pakistani? really? you look indian".
MY ANCESTORS CROSSED OVER IN THE EFFIN PARTITION AND NEARLY DIED SO THAT YOU COULD SAY THAT I DONT LOOK LIKE A PAKISTANI?
Because who does look like a true Pakistani? Fair skinned punjabis and pathans only? Pakistan isn't for the rest of us darklings?
Arrogance and ignorance at it's height.

My family is from Bhuj, India. What exactly is your arrogant statement supposed to mean? I'm ugly because my roots are from Gujrat?
Guess what princess? Between you and me, you're the ugly one for such discriminatory remarks.
Re: If you're Pakistani and you're mistaken for an Indian...
And if we're so ugly to you, then I can say, I wish we memons took our skills, intelligence, honesty, and took it back with us to India. How about we take Eidhi back too, he's not that hot looking either by your northern punjabi standards.
Re: If you're Pakistani and you're mistaken for an Indian...
Maybe 30, 40 years ago there was similarity between the 2 cultures. And sure we look similar to some extent, but after 60+ years of independence, both countries are developing their own separate cultures and identities. Because we have a shared history of centuries there are similar interests and similar values, but it's diverging and maybe a century later it won't be similar at all, just like Chinese and Japanese cultures aren't similar now.
That's definitely true, but you can't base your distinction on looks. Then you're basically saying Pakistan is only for the fair punjabis and pathans and not for the sindhis who have a distinctly indian look, or for the memons or the gujratis who definitely often look Indian. Or how about the south indian population that migrated to Pakistan? They don't belong to Pakistan? Have you seen the people who migrated from calcutta, even down so far as sri lankan populations?
What does this say to an Indian muslim who might be marrying into a Pakistani family, or immigrating to Pakistan to change his nationality because he believes in Jinnah's vision. So he looks dark, or has a hair type, or his lips are shaped a certain way or nose is shaped a certain way, he can't come to Pakistan and become a Pakistani?
Sometimes I really wonder whether people deserved a Pakistan. We should have been one India and let the hindus kick our arses. Maybe then aqal aa thi.
Re: If you're Pakistani and you're mistaken for an Indian...
Yeah PCG, Indians are looking forward for you to come to India.
As for the rest of your posts: says the girl who looks down at punjabis, sahms, girls who marry young, nurses, home made rottis and 99 other things.
Re: If you're Pakistani and you're mistaken for an Indian...
I don't look down at punjabis, but clearly the punjabis here think that the only way to look Pakistani is to have punjabi facial features. Great way to alienate the rest of Pakistan. No problem, at this rate, the way things are going, the only Pakistan that will be left will be Punjab, the rest of the provinces will eventually just separate off.
