If you're interested in Hair Removal...read this...

I have been doing extensive research on this, because well, I get tired of the daily routine that we go through for hair removal.

I have compiled this information from extensive reading and am putting it here so that you can hopefully benefit from it. Insha’Allah. If you want references I can provide them.

Okay, first of all, there are only two known methods of permanent hair removal. Laser hair removal and electrolysis. No other method permanently removes hair. Not shaving, not creams, not patches, not sprays, etc.

Laser Hair Removal:

Works best on those with very fair skin (i.e. white) and dark hair. Doesnt work as well on those with more tan colored skin, or those with blondish hair, or those not very fair. (This isnt to say it doesnt work at all, just not as well.) I called one of the top laser clinics in my city and the Doctor told me that permanent laser hair removal may not be so permanent due to my skin color. So he verified what I had been reading. The type of laser you use is important, and many top clinics use more than one type of laser. It is best to go to a clinic that has the doctor do the work, rather than the technicians, though this isnt necessary of course. Laser feels like someone is snapping you with a rubber band. Improper technique can result in scarring, therefore you need a good clinic.

Electrolysis:

Works best for those with “non-white” skin and those with lighter hair color. There is only ONE type of electrolysis that can guarantee to result in some permanent hair-loss. This is needle electrolysis. Tweezer electrolysis or any other type may not result in permanent results. So if you’re going to your local salon and the lady there uses a tweezer and not a needle and she is telling you that its guaranteed to result in permanent hair loss, I would suggest you find another person/salon. Perhaps it worked on the odd one or two people, but if you do your research, you will find only needle electrolysis is guaranteed. It is not suggested you do needle electrolysis on your own because it can easily burn your skin and scar you for life if not done properly, not to mention it takes an enormous amount of time to do properly. It doesnt pierce your skin. Theres a website that explains this process well, if you need it just PM me or mention here and I will PM you.

Elecrolysis can take anywhere from 6 months of treatment to 36 months or more of treatment to achieve permanent hair removal. About 10% of people never see permanent results (according to a study). In the US, electrolysis is regulated state-by-state. This is because it can result in damage to the skin if not done properly.

PM me for one of the best sites I have found on hair removal. smile

since i have to bring it into every thread possible,

one way of hair removal is to be really really unlucky with respect to a certain aspect of your male parent :*(

Atleast you don't have a bad hair day Ravage! Besides Bruce Willis was looking so good on the letterman show yesterday.

Munni a friend of mine has electrolysis and for quite some time she had thess black dots which were all the more visible on her very fair skin. Does electrolysis normally leave black marks untill the procedure is over?

Interesting .. could you pm me the link please Munni? (I know I owe you 2 pms :stuck_out_tongue: )

Ravage, ganje blokes are way sexy :k:

Femme, I know somebody who had quite a bit of facial hair (cheeks, neck, etc.) and she had electrolysis done. It took about 1.5 years to permanently remove all the hair and she looks fantastic. She is also really fair and it left no scars or dark marks.

Munni,

Last week I went to a skin specialist doctor after doing some amount of research on permanent hair removal.

Well she said laser doesnt garantees 100% hair loss, its different from case to case, some 4-6 sessions are needed and maybe later on, once a year if necessary.

I wanted to start, but its better do start laser treatement, when you wont get tanned, so its not recommended in summer, best time for laser is fall or winter time.

Femme, that is not normal. Normal is having mosquito type bumps for a very short time after electrolysis.

Yes, I have been comparing prices and treatments, well there are some differences, as there are many sorts of lasers treatments and it also depends on how much area you want to have treated. So I asked for a soft laser which would cost in EUROPE, here where I live, around ... 150 Euro for chin and neck area, 75 Euro for upper lips, 75 Euro for cheeks, so around 300 Euro for the whole face. (each session) .. done by an experienced doctor.

In pakistan, there is a private clinic in Islamabad, with a doctor, who graduated from the US, whose rates are I think around 25.000 - 30.000 Pak Rs. for the whole face.

I wouldnt go to any clinic but would make sure that a doctor is doing the treatment and that the place is reliable.

Electrolysis is a no-no compared to laser hair removal. It is not as effective, is more painful and could cause scarring, all in all not the best value for your money.

The other thing people don't realise about laser hair removal is that there are many different types and all not as effective. Most laser treatments only work on people with fair skin and dark hair, the contrast in colour being essential to the overall success of the treatment. Also laser treatments can lead to uneven skin pigmentation.

The currently most effective 'laser' treatment is Epilight and/or Photolight. It is good for Mediterranean-type or Indian and Pakistani skin. Its main feature is the wider range of wavelengths available, compared to traditional laser treatments, which can be customised to individual areas and hair types, reducing the chances of uneven skin pigmentation of your beautiful choca-mocha skin and other unsiglightly features. Apparently it is between 60-80% effective in hair reduction (depending on your hair type and hair growth cycle of course) and when the hair does grow back, it is of much shorter length, and so not very visible.

Its all costly but what's a bit of re-mortgaging when it comes to beautiful skin?

Munni, can you please PM me the information that you have got, especially on Elecrolysis. thanks

I might have a uncle doctor in the family who is doing laser treatments too, to bad, I didnt knew this the last time I was there, so lets see how much discount I can get out of him.

Cause its a personal website of someone's. And GS policy doesnt allow that to be posted. smile

thanks for the info Munni, really a very informative and organized post. :k:
ive been thinking of going to a laser clinic to get something done about the extra unshavable facial hair growth on the cheekbones, a typical guy problem, mostly for asians. if that website has any relevent info that may be useful for me, please can you PM it to me?
thanks!

Laser treatment is better than electrolysis any day! Although laser is expensive but it is worth putting your money into. I had both types done - laser and elec. and I would def. recommend laser!

Excess Hair

I just need some info on the following:

Any good commercial/homemade products to use for bleaching/hiding excess hair on face?

And what are the 'long lasting' hair removal products for arms etc etc....

Thanks in advance!
