... or the personality and character of girl's parents. Why is it always assumed that if the guy is not respecting his wife's parents then that is his fault. I've seen numerous cases where wife's parents, especially her mother is extremely nasty with her own Damaad. Damad is not obligated to respect his inlaws if he does not see any respect coming from them.

If he doesn't respect my parents i'd make sure I go on and on about it all the time.I would remind him how important they are to me. In the worse case i'd treat him the same so he can get a taste of his own medicine :snootyL

I know its hard to ignore such behavior but I don't think its a good idea to mistreat people who are kind to you. Regardless of how their son is acting.
I would make sure I am not blaming the wrong party.

We're taught to respect our elders but the deep rooted respect is earned. If my parents are nasty towards my husband, I wouldn't expect to respect them in his heart. How he deals with them and behaves with them will depend on his upbringing, his personality, etc.

How about this, your in laws respect you and treat you nicely, but not your family, relatives cousins etc, always making comments about them.
WHAT THEN??
