the answer to this question depends on where you live and the kind of lifestyle you have. before marriage I lived in Canada and mom would get desi store pita for everyday. we grew to prefer it.over homemade roti. occasionally she would make roti for dad and parathas on weekend. I never learned.the whole aata kneading and.roti making.
fast forward to after marriage in Pakistan. hubby loves roti hates rice. roti is made here 3x a day. a meal let alone a day without roti is incomprehensible literally. so I learnt it all. took me months but practice makes.perfect alhamdulillah.
but its understANDBLE if you're a working woman or hubby doesn't care too much for home roti. all depends on lifestyle.
BUT a note to girls who think its too hard/messy/time consuming, it gets MUCH better with time. now I can even make kickass parathas and feel totally proud
I like to make roti while people are sitting at the table so that they get them hot off the tawa......and garam, garam paratha is the only way to have paratha!!!
garam paratha and thandi mala'ee...........mmmm, mmmm, good!
ulta tawa is the ONLY way to make great chapatis.....particularly on an open flame.
you only turn the roti once and then "saik" it on the open flame for 5 seconds.
when I was learning how to make chapatis, ammi used to have me make them for dawats in which we have 15/20 people over.
I would make 50+ chapatis every other weekend and that gave me the practice that I needed to perfect the process. Now it's a breeze.
