be honest.

5 minutes. I travel for work, so my office is an empty cubicle.
What do you do for work? I am going to guess prof?
I dont keep much only things i require at work, additional mobile charger, some files on computer, thats it, I will need 5- 10 minutes. thats, plus if I am being forced to leave, i wouldnt like to sit there anyway.
arrrghhh... I think we're the anomalies Dush - last year when I changed jobs, it took me almost 6 hours to get everything packed with some help from an assistant and then another 2 hours or so to get everything out of the office into a minivan.
I'm a little more careful now about the books that I keep in my office... but alas, there are no more walls in my home to put any more bookshelves.
But reading from your post, you surely describe someone who's really personalized their workspace... I don't have many "personal belongings" other than my books, laptop, a few desk accessories and ergonomic enhancers. The furniture, equipment and most fixtures are not my own.
When I left my previous job, it took me about 45 minutes to empty out. I had a lot small items that my boss and co-workers had brought as gifts while they were traveling on business.
I had brought my empty gym bag and filled it to the brim. I left the beer in my office, I figured that the next person could make use of it more than I ever could :)
i agree Umar, books and papers, computer work etc. takes time in a professor's office.
less is better, absolutely. :>
best,
Dushwari

When I had to change my office within the same building 2 years ago, I packed 3-4 boxes of books and references. Company movers moved everything to the new office. Till the day I never unpacked those boxes. I had figured that all those books/manuals were normally sitting there just for the display and I never really needed them. Only one book I use once in a while and that is right in front of me.
So beside those boxes, I may have to pack 1 or 2 more boxes within 10-15 minutes. It may however take me 30 minutes to take backup of my work from my desktop.
when i went for my mom's leave, it took me a while, half day to sort out my stuff, i threw away half of the ordners, some stuff i took home and some stuff i gave away and some stuff stayed at office, i learned from that, now i dont have much stuff there, it will take me 30 mintues to get ready to go.
