Re: If you were my son...
nevermind...i did get a little over the top with this one...i admit...but i was trying to suggest that people (not you personally) read too much into little things..and then in the threads with the replies and stuff things get blown out of epic proportions (which i am annoyed at).......and i just layed out the extreme situation to show the direction in which this thread was going....
I apologise if something i said was offensive to you...
That's ok, apology accepted :)
Perhaps I read things a little too literally
Re: If you were my son...
I have two examples in front of my eyes, granted having daughter has it's own good things, but having no son at all is definitely depressing for the parents specially for the father.
In our society the girl get married and goes away, the son left to take care or build upon what is left by the father - well actually son is expected to inherit everything and also take care of aged parents. On earth being son is privileged but it also comes with many responsibilities.
Why it's like that, this has nothing to do with being conservative or living in state of denial, it's here from the day one and common in all the parents from any civilization.
Re: If you were my son...
Actually, thats not true. I was at a salon one day getting my hair done and the lady in the chair next to me was complaining about her sons.
She asked her hairdresser if she had any kids...hairdresser says yes but a girl. The client laughed and said thank your lucky stars because she will never leave you.
These boys follow their girlfriends and wives around like puppies and forget their parents the minute they see a skirt.
And yes, she was a desi woman.
In the eyes of society, sure. And of course ladies, dont we all know how much nicer our MILs are to us the minute they see a baby boy versus a baby girl?
But practically speaking, women will always be much more in tune with their parents' needs than men.

Those girlfriends and wives these guys follow, are they also more in tune with their parents' needs than men?
Re: If you were my son...
Being told that if you were a beta, when you are infact a girl, that parents would have no worries.
A compliment or a depressing thought?
It would a depressing thought if you are already a boy

Pretty extreme example it is, not so common maybe one or two in a million.
Being in tune & in touch is quiet different. Aged parents have some other needs. The parents who only have one daughter have different view of the world, probably at one time they don't want to go to limits where a father will go for his son, in terms of building up something.
Few years ago when i gave dad my first pay check i can see tears in his eyes, he was happy as heaven, for parents a grown up son felt like a standing mountain in which they feels secure and it's same for his sister. Isn't it ?
Now you can keep disagreeing, but well this is reality and it's around everywhere.
Re: If you were my son…
Women take care of their parents more…which is why men get married and bring their wives into the picture. Because they have no idea what on earth to do.
Chalo koi nahin…enough of bursting all of your bubbles for today. ![]()

Not the only reality anymore. I know girls who take care of their parents financially. And I plan to do so too.

Desis...we're never really satisfied, eh?
