What will be your strategy to prepare the team for world cup?
1-Would you change coach?
2-Selectors?
3-Get rid of some of the flukey players and bring in young blood?
4- Set-up batting and bowling clinics with video sessions?
5-Would you ask Imran Khan some help?
Re: If you are the PCB chairman??
- First of all scrap all pitches
- Put batsmen to face the ball on cement pitches
- Kickout flashers (toba toba :nono3: )
- Then make hard/bouncy/grassy pitches for all domestic players
Re: If you are the PCB chairman??
4- Set-up batting and bowling clinics with video sessions?
Shouldn't this already be happening at the so called National Cricket Academy being run by Mudassar Nazar.
Re: If you are the PCB chairman??
Yes good points. However, do you honestly think that PCB will do that? They may not bother because of the costs.
Look at what the Indian board has done, built new stadiums and the ICC championships is being played away from their tradional venues, however I don’t see that happening in Pakistan.
Re: If you are the PCB chairman??
Cost is not the factor in not making hard/bouncy/grassy pitches. Our current and next lot of batsmen aren't used to those kinda pitches so they'll block the move. But our PCB chiefs are not interested in longer plans, for example they can keep dead pitches for current lot and put the next lot and domestic teams on hard/bouncy/grassy pitches so once the current lots phases out we'll have new crop of batsmen who will be able to play in different conditions.
Re: If you are the PCB chairman??
There should be tracks u'd find all over the world, slow spinning tracks, swinging and seaming tracks, bouncy tracks, tracks with uneven bounce, ones conducive to reverse swing, and of course flat tracks, that way we can become world beaters.

Nope I will not change the coach but coach should get an earful on the issues he was not able to dealt with since the start of his tenure, and a report how’d he like to progress (what he will be doing with the issues faced by the team, mistakes that keep happening…etc)
-
Selectors, well this would be the right time to design a model for the domestic cricket, since there is less cricket played during (Nov - Feb). call upon the curator’s of the main stadiums all over Pakistan and ask them to work on various clay mix and prepare some pitches, and generally I am a fan of pitches should be prepared to the strenght of the home team, but variation (green top, or combo of spin- and green) would help the team and gain experience and prepare themselves, why aussie are good at adapting is coz, like recently Lee mentioned for ICC CT they are working with the wet balls, its about the application and feeling comfortable, thats what Pakistan should do, when Pakistan fall like a deck of cards on seam and swing wickets.
-
Certainly flukey players should go away for good, here I would like to point out that the criteria for the domestic batsman to qualify for Pakistan A team should be an AVg of 50+ (yes I know its tough, but one way to promote application and discipline in the batsmen). As for young blood I was discourage by the players drafted for the PCB “The emerging players” (many of them are master of musical chairs).
-
As for bowling and batting clinics, well you are asking alot of financial investment, but providing such facilities(academies in Lahore) for the Under-19, Pakistan A team and President Xi and Domestic champs should be a must, make use of the academies are already in Lahore.
-
Imran Khan is a politician, unless he wants to dedicate his time to cricket 100% then fore sure he is the go guy for betterment of PCB and domestic cricket, otherwise NO. There are many other ex- players from whom Pakistan teams (domestic, U-19, A team…etc) can learn alot, As a reward for the domestic champs, PCB should arrange a meeting with 3/4 Ex-players (Batsman for e.g. Saeed Anwar, Zaheer Abbas…etc, Bowlers for e.g Aaquib Jawid, Wasim Akram, Abdul Qadir, Tauseef Ahmed (combo of spinners and or pace bowlers) and W-keeper for e.g. Moin Khan, Wasim Bari..etc) get some valu able insights about the game. Heck even invite Sarfarz Nawaz who knows he could teach something.
More of a 1 day clinic with the ex-players, they should watch highlights of the finals (domestic) and provide what could be done better with lunch and adivce from their experience.
More over a short deadline should be set (3 months) with mandatory follow up and reports of the progress made.
well thats it for now I think ![]()
Re: If you are the PCB chairman??
Its too late for everything. Bring Inzi back. Give Woolmar task to sort atleast batting techinque flaws out during WI series and fix them before last series before WC.
We will have to live with what we have. And its not bad, if we have Inzi, Akhtar and Asif back.
And remember, WC is not everything. We need to see beyond it. We need to find atleast two geniune fast bowlers ASAP (in one year time) and a reliable batsman for middle order.
Re: If you are the PCB chairman??
I would do ONLY one thing. Make it compulsory for every player to earn at least a Bachelors degree from a reputable college or university.
Talent and hardwork will get you so much but professional players need temperament, knowledge of the game, and inter-personal skills to play like a team and the last time I checked, cricket is a very team sport.
Get educated, broaden up the mind, make better people and better cricketers will come naturally.
Re: If you are the PCB chairman??
^ as if other "educated" people do well :CareBear: ... "parhay likhay jahil" ki term sunee hay? Pakistan mai bohot milayn gai.... actually US mai bhee bohot mil jayen gai.
Re: If you are the PCB chairman??
Yes you are right and when will these jokers get their act together?
Re: If you are the PCB chairman??
1.I will bring back Salman butt in the team and keep him there even if he misses out in a few matches because he has more talent than the other openers and has scored centuries in important games for pakistan.I will get rid of Imran Farhat who throws his wicket away every now and then and does'nt play for the team.
2.I will get rid of Bob woolmer who I think is a free loader making easy money here and hire Aaqib Javed in his place on temporary basis whos a good thinker and has won pakistan two under 19 world cups.
3.I will keep Inzamam as captain whos not perfect as captain, but looking at younis khan's inability to handle pressure in this tournament, Inzi is a better choice.
4.I will bring back Azhar Mehmood as a cover for Afridi if Afridi continues to fail.
5.It is important that Akhtar and Asif are there for the world cup otherwise Pakistan's bowling will suffer as it did in this tournament
Re: If you are the PCB chairman??
first of all we need to see some stability at the top(PCB).They need to set some clear goals for short term to prepapre the team for world cup.
Identify 20 or 25 players for the WC roster and send them to kind of boot camp for certain period to let them go through some harsh conditions where they can learn to work as team to survive and also build mental toughness and deciplin.Keep these guys together till WC.
I agree,we should keep Bob Woolmer with a bigger role in terms of team selection(selectors need to consult with him before the team selection to get his feed back). He needs to submit eveluation report on players to PCB and should be reviewed with the each player one on one after each series and this process must be transparent.Out come of this process should be that Mudasar Nazar at the cricket academy set up certain clinics for those players who needs to work on their certain short comings. They can hire on short term basis ex players to work with these guys. With PCB money is not the problem.
Need to look at Salman B,Yaser H,Imran F,Hafeez M,Bazid K and Imran N for possible opening pairs.
Younis,Yusuf,Inzi,Faisal and Asam for middle order.
Razzaq,Shoaib,Afridi and yasar A for all ronders and maybe some youngsters with domestic performance record.
kamran Akmal and another keeper as back up.
Bowling it depends what happens to Shoaib and Asif.If they are gone then we need to look at , Sami,Rana,Rao,Gul,Samiullah,Riaz Afridi, and other medium pacers with domestic peformance.Mohammed Sami has a pace over 140k that is crucial if he can learn to bowl with deciplin,we need to bring the best out of him.
Re: If you are the PCB chairman??
Lolzzz! So true
Re: If you are the PCB chairman??
MY ANSWERS:::
YES - ALREADY ANSWERED IN 2.
Re: If you are the PCB chairman??
If I am made the PCB chairman, I will immediately look for a competent and capable new chairman who has a very good exposure, both as a player and as a manager/administrator to Pakistan cricket. He should be a well educated guy with a clean track record and with a demonstrated ability to deliver results.
I will ask interested candidates to submit their applications alongwith their credentials for the job and will have the short-listed candidates interviewed by an interviewer's panel. The panel will consist of some respected and less-controversial people from cricket who are not candidates for the same position, a current or ex-chief justice, and a reknowned journalist/media expert.
Once the right guy is identified, I will leave the coach/selection committee, domestic cricket infrastructure matters etc. for him to fix.
It is a pity that jokers like myself are "appointed" at this top-notch position based on their political background or personl links with the king maker. These people can never bring any good to Pak cricket. We need an honest and qualified chairman assisted by committed and an able team of professionals.
Re: If you are the PCB chairman??
Above all are excellant ideas. in addition I would add following.
1) have all the players pass at least Matriculation. inter will be a plus
2)Basic English grammer classes. difference between he and she, singular and plural.
3)mandatory classes to understand laws of cricket ,specially for the captian.
4) how to handle press when they have gained sudden fame.
